I'm taking my son to check out a mint 2000 MIM strat this Saturday. He already owns a 2008 American standard but wants something to mod. Is this a decent guitar and does anyone know what wood the body is made of? Is there anything I should look out for with this year guitar? I'm sure its a 2000 by the serial number. What do u guys think of the 2000 MIM?

$250 for a mint condition Fender Strat? Yeah, I'd say that is a very good deal.

That sounds like a reasonable price. I have a '98 MIM I think it's a great beginner/intermediate guitar. It sounds and feels pretty good. I'd go for it if I were you.

Hello Johnbia,

Firstly welcome to this forum.

2000 Mexico guitars are darn nice.

If it's mint it's a good deal for
$250 I'd expect a case too.

Cheers.

I have 2 MIM's 2006 & 2007 and they both have Alder body's. I would say it's a good chance the 2000 model has the same.

MIM Strats are great instruments. If he wants to mod it, then it would be great for that as well. I had one but sold it and couple other thiings when I had the chance to buy an American deluxe at a really good price.

$250 is a nice price for it as well. Its funny, but what I personaly have been seeing is a rise in prices for used MIM strats ever since Fender raised the price on new ones. I watch Craigs List a lot and it seems lately folks that originaly bought older model strats when they were $399 new, now want over $400 and try and give you the BS of "new they run $499" and give a link back to GC to prove their point...... more power to 'ya.

anyway $250 is a good price with or without a case if its mint.

Yeah, $250 sounds good. Mine was $350 new. It's a 2004 MIM Strat, so it doesn't have any of the upgrades that the newer ones do but it plays nice and I really love the neck. I think I'm going to be playing for a long, long time.

I just checked, no case included. He will try and find the soft case but no promises. No big deal i guess.

If anything, tell him to knock off $15 since it does not have a case/gig bag. You can buy a new fender gig bag at GC for $15.

I have a 2000 left hand MIM STRAT (I strung it R.H. to try the Jimi thing) it cost me 290 Cdn in 2000 but it was the best 290 I ever spent.I'd say for 250 you couldn't find a better guitar.

I say yes but take your son along to play it. Just to be sure he likes the action on it.

he will be coming to try it out. We should be getting it tomorrow morning. He has an extra softcase from his musicman he can use temporarily.

We picked up the dark red MIM on Saturday. It is near mint condition. 1 nick on the neck (very small) and a 1 inch scratch (hairline) on the back. It has a thinner neck than my son's 2008 american strat and the body might be slightly thicker. He likes the sound of the pickups and isn't sure if he will swap them out or not. He does want to change the wiring though. Thanks all for your advice.

$250 is a great deal. Lately it seems that MIM prices have been rising. The stigma of it's not American is fading I guess. Though I did see a 95 MIM Squier series sell for $70!

I recently bought a 96 for $230 from a Daddy's.

$250 seems like the average craigslist price, for any year MIM strat.

I picked up a 2002 for $125 and a 2006 for $120 though, but I wouldn't pay more than $250 for one.
