Get yourself an HSS Strat. (humbucker, single, single).

Get a coil tap fitted to the humbucker and then you can play with a bridge single coil as well. Best of both worlds.

The Clapton Strat with the active mid boost circuit can get SC sounds and can get fat sounding like a HB. They are cool guitars too!

The HSS with coil tap would probably be the cheaper(I'd definitely get it with coil tap)but either would be an exceptional guitar.

Now theres a sound that is prime for metal, especialy old doomy sabbath riffs. Mids at 10 tbx at 4. You dont even need any kind of boost pedal with most amps gain.

Myself i really like the bridge humbucker and middle singlecoil sound out of hss strats. I think it offers every good point of that position and non of the bad. Its kind of beefed up singlecoil sounding, doesnt suffer humbucker mud. True singlecoil and true humbucker are only one possition away.
