You guy's hit Skynard's guitar players without mentioning their most recent killer Strat playing Mark Matejka, who joined the band in 2006. Although all of their guitar players through the years have been great, this guy really takes the cake. IMO he is the most stylish player that they have ever had!

I went and watch Ozzy at the Texas Jam in the late 70's, I believe he was wearing hi top Converse. Or maybe I was stoned.

I saw the one from the road tour with S.G. on guitar, King was gone by then as well as the original drummer, Van Zant did not even come close to looking at a guitar, let alone playing one. I can't prove it, but I'd bet serious money he never played guitar. I believe he just wrote and sang. I might have even read somewhere that he did not play, just sang. This is kind of a dumb thing to even discuss, we sound like a bunch of ladies talking about their favorite soap episode of all time. God bless them and us for doing it though. I'm waiting for someone to prove that I'm full of poop and come up with a video of R.V.Z. strumming away and saying dude you're so full of it! Can someone please pop my bubble now!

I recently read an interview with Ed King where he recalled writing with Ronnie. He stated that Ronnie did not play guitar or would not write down the words or anything. Ed mentioned that they would work hard to memorize the new song because if there was a difference Ronnie would rework the song to the new progression. BTW I think Steve Gaines is one of the most overlooked outstanding guitar player.

It's been a year and no one has proved me wrong yet on the statement I made. I welcome it if someone can correct me. I do not believe RVZ played the guitar. I take great pride and having been able to have seen those boys in their day when I was a young man myself. I don't use the word 'dude' too often anymore, but I have an appreciation for it when others do use the word. Thank you for commenting on it Mr Tanner, you are right it's been over a year.

I went through my old concert photos and found this one of Mr Van Zant.

I would say it is and Ovation.

So....do I win?

That photo looks like Donnie, not Ronnie.

I agree...I mean who is left on stage after Billy Powell and Leon died,of the band? Gary R. is the only original member left still playing under the band's name, and several years ago I read where there had to be at least 4 original members still playing to call it Skynyrd.
I saw that guy's (Matejka) picture in an add and thought what version of the band exists now that can really be compared to LS when Ronnie was alive?
I know Ed is still alive and Artimus is,I think, and they ain't there now.Rick Medlocke played with them early on.
It ain't the same band.
Funny thing about LS and RVZ...a guy who was around them in the studio said one time he saw them and they had busted lips and black eyes and he said you could tell they had been in a big fight...then he found out they had been fighting each other!
The guy who told me that was Paul Davis,a great musician and singer,RIP,and he was surprised that they would fight and then work together.
