What kind of guitar did Ronnie Van Zant play in Lynyrd Skynyrd?

He didnt play guitar much to my knowledge.I think between Alan Collins, Gary Rossington and Steve Gaines , he felt he was covered. He might have played an acoustic once in a while though.

It's hard to find out anything about his guitar playing on the internet. Even though he was lead vocals, most guys who start a band can and do play.

Mainly just a singer, though I've seen pics of them where there are like 6 dudes playing guitar. I remember seeing Les Pauls, Flying V's, and maybe a Tele or so.

Tex are you just throwing this out there or do you have an answer? I have never seen Ronnie with a guitar on. The original guitar line up was Rossington,Collins and Ed King who laid downs some classic solos thats King on Sweet Home Alabama. King left and Gaines came in on a recommendation by his sister Cassey who was a backup singer in the band and just a phenominal player there must of been something in the water there at that time cause all these guys were so young and just amazing players.

I saw the original Skynyrd lineup four times. Never saw Ronnie touch a guitar that I remember. Although my memory of those shows may have been slightly chemically altered...

Count me in as another who never saw a guitar strapped to Ronnie.

I don't know if he played a guitar or not Stray cat, you left out Leon Wilk who left the band and then came back.

Gary Rossington uses LPs and SGs (Had a sig model from GIbson), Allen Collins usually used a natural finish Explorer or a firebird, Steve Gaines used a sunburst strat, Ed King also used strats. Ronnie Van Zant never played guitar o_O
