Is there something wrong with my guitar or setup, the only place where they tend to break sometimes is near the saddles. They are D'addarios and have been in there like for 2 weeks. I was hitting them pretty hard, but still I'm used to snapping them by the fretboard not near the saddles.

Check your saddles for wear. I've had similar problems, and found under close examination that there was a burr that was cutting the strings. If there's a burr, it can be taken down with a fine file.

Unless it is a continuesly happening I would just chalk it up to a string breaking. If not digby gave you the right info. When I changed from 9s to 10s my string breakage all but disappeared.

I had the same problem until I read the instruction book and found that Fender recommends putting 3in1 oil on the saddles. Once I did that the problem cleared up. It doesn't take much (less than a drop, use a toothpick) and use a tissue or paper towel to clean up any excess.

You might want to let us know what guitar you have...If it is a Starcaster from Costco, it is going to be a little crude. :)
