Is it true a Fender tremelo does not move as great as a floyd rose ? If I want more movement do I only loosen the 6 screws up top as well as remove springs, I currently have the 6 screws up top on tremelo screwed down tight and have 3 springs in back. I get vibrato sound but can I do more ? thanks theres about 3 questions here appreciated

Vin the main reason a Floyd Rose can have a larger sweep is that the trem cavity is routed differently. The tuning stability comes from the clamps both at the nut(most important in my opinion,) and at the saddles. But the extra sweep (usually in the raise pitch direction,) comes from the differently routed cavities.

That I can't tell you. I have never tinkered with a vintage style trem. I have a couple 2 points, and the only older strat i have played around with enough to be able to tinker with was a hard tail.

I believe people suggest that you tighten down the 2 outside screws. And then only tighten the 4 inner until they just make contact with the body, but i am sure there are members here with a ton more knowledge about this than me, that will be better able to help you.

Vinny your limited by the trem cavity and the inertia block on a vintage style trem. You need a much smaller inertia block and a longer trem cavity to get full divebomd dizzyness. Loosening the screws wont a shred of difference, except that your guitar wont return back to pitch and/or same action heigh as well.

Funnily enough i was talking with a exceptionaly knowledgable friend earlier who suggested i try cuttng a V into the 6screws sides to create a floydrose style pivot post. He was handling one of my more expenive guitars at the time, i became quite dismayed. However when i get home this weekend, I'll try it on another guitar. That guy doesnt suggest anything bad ever. If he says it will aid return to pitch, i'll put money on it.

I went to see him about this neck build i'm doing. Even with the wealth of knowledge on the internet for free, i'd rather take a 100mile drive to see him.

Just my 02cents here. I'm a bigtime trem user but over the years I've moved from heavy use to light vibrato use. I have Floyds, Vintage Standards and American Standards. I tend to lean more towards either of the Fenders. I keep all my trems floating...

The American (two pole) tends to allow more movement because it sits higher much like the Floyd. With a well lubed nut and good keys, it will hold tune well. I prefer these over the Vintage Standard 6 pole/screw.

For my 6 screw to keep it working well with smooth movement I make sure the screw holes are secure. In other words, none are stripped or close to being stripped. I then remove 2 of 5 springs leaving one in
the middle and two on the outside. Using 10's tuning at 440 it floats well.
Before putting on strings I let the trem plate sit flat on the body and
tighten all 6 screws down just till it barely touches the metal. If you tighten
too much you'll see the back end kick up a little. Again, this is "only" for
a floating bridge type setup.

Everyone is different so it's important to learn the mechanics of it before you begin setting up your own rig.

Oh, and always invents in quality tuners, a good nut and some graphite to use on the nut.
