Alright, most everyone will think I'm an idiot, but I couldn't hold myself back!! I took my 57RI and reliced it big time. I don't have enough time left on the earth to get it to the stage it's at now...I absolutely love SRV and his truly "used" strats. I did however manage to wear down the maple neck, all on my own! There's something different about this guitar now...it's probabaly mental, but whatever works right? I drew the line at any stickers though...

I have many, many strats...6 total, anyone else found themselves in this situation?

Welcome to the Forum.

No I have never found myself with 6 Strats at one time. I am not a fan of the relicing thing, but to each their own. All I can say is to have fun with your guitars. If you have a chance, please post pics, we love guitar porn here on the Forum.

What situation? Having many, many strats? Yes.
Have the uncontrollable urge to relic one big time? No.

Relicing does nothing for me. I love my beat up, used the $@!& up, guitars. But I like that I did that to them, with stage hijinx, moving gear, and just general shenanigans.

I don't regret it...I like it (love it). I also refretted it with some jumbos. I play a heavy gauge with a pretty high action. D style neck, like a table leg! You can never have too many strats, they all have thier own tone and feel ya know. I gig a lot so different tunings and color are a must.

I am not a fan of the artificial relicing movement but I see a lot of people really like it and thats fine with me. I like the weathered look of my workhorse guitars though they dont have chunks of finish removed they have there dings and dents that happen over time. To be honest outside of a famous player like SRV I have never seen anyones ax look like that. One friend in particular who has been gigging and playing for 40 plus years on a steady basis and has done it all from studio work with Diana Ross to giving lessons to Vernon Reid and has some great Strats but nothing chewed up like the relics they make. I would just say have fun with the one you made but would advise you to doing it to anymore of your guitars.

Yngwie Malmsteen's guitar that he brought with him from Sweden is very heavily aged. Check it out. And look at Rory Gallagher's guitar.
