Hi Jimmy.

I find that the vintage style trem has a snappier attack and more consistent note decay, particularly on thicker strings. Its a little hard for me to articulate, but to describe the note decay line, lets say the two trems are kids on sledges. The 6 point goes down the hill thats a pretty even 45/50 degrees. The 2 point being a bit of a daredevil picks the hill that starts off with a fairly shallow incline, then has a near vertical drop, then levels off gently.

No doubt there are some very raised eyebrows at this point. Sorry, I havent had my 2nd coffee yet.

Hi Niki: do both bridges have the same saddles, or does one have vintage and the other block steel?

Cheers - C

Both different, and yes thats what i attribute the sound difference to. The saddles and I suspect the springs. I'll dig the hotrod out later and do a bit of spring swapping with that and the deluxe to check how much difference they do make. I strongly suspect its more down to the saddles than anything else though.

I could be entirely be influenced by feeling over sound, so seeking to attribute some of it to the springs.

Anyhow back to making this neck jig.

I changed the stock block saddles on my 2-point trem to the bent steel ones, and I would describe the difference to be very much like Niki's explanation between the two types of trems.

Thanks Niki,
I too changed saddles on my 2 point and found a difference much like you are describing. The vintage style saddles added some clarity i believe and a little more hold out to the notes. I have messed with springs in adjusting trems from softer to stiffer and a bunch of config's but i cant say i hear a difference as some mention they do.

take care, jimmy b

Is there any ski jumps on this hill?Actually for some reason i was able to follow that..I myself like the feel of the vintage trem much more than the modern trem on the American Standard..I can't really explain why ..Kinda along the same lines as i prefer maple on maple necks but if you ask me to describe the reason why i couldn't give you a much better reason then because i do..Or to quote spinal tap it goes to 11
