I have a pickguard that I purchased from WD Music a while ago. I noticed that it did not have the foil shielding as the original fender pickguard did. Since I have a Strat Plus with Fender Lace sensors is the sheiding really needed and if it is what is the best way to add the shielding?

If I remember correctly, the lead wires coming from the Lace Sensors are not jacketed in any kind of grounded, metal insulation. Consequently, line noise could get in. As the body of your guitar has shielding paint, you would at least want to shield the underneath of the pickguard directly in line over the channel where the wires from the Sensors travel through the body and of course, the entire area where the pots and switch are located.

Sheets of adhesive copper foil cut to suit are best for this purpose. When joining one sheet or piece of copper with another, overlap them ever so slightly. Gently put a pin hole in the top overlapping piece, thus ensuring it will have ample electrical contact with the underlying sheet.
