I'm afraid to ask what is it that the girl on the right is holding (John Holmes sig model perhaps)?

Oh and as for Miley, not if I have to give up my Hannah Montana Gibson

8 years old? Should I have done it at 2 years old? Organogenesis?

Kids will do pretty much anything you put in front of them until they start to notice the opposite gender.

If your girls still want to play the guitar at 15 or so (and I mean come home and start playing on their own just for fun), that's when I'd buy them a real axe and some lessons. The world is littered with band instruments that ceased being used the day after the owner's first date.

You know, I think more Hello Kitty Strats found their way into the hands of punks and metalheads than the hands of rawkiin' young girls.

I'd buy a Miley Cyrus Strat is it was fun to play. I mean, she's hawt. And it's party in the USA.

Excellent points.

The only lingering concern I have is that I will put a damper on their enthusiasm by giving them instruments which do NOT inspire them to play.

...feels wrong....sounds wrong....ect. ect.

Those instruments (or exercise equipment) may go unused is because of their poor quality and "playability".

For example....I bought a Mitchel Acoustic for $99 about 5 years ago. Within months it sat around unused.

I started visiting Guitarcenter in Nashua, NH about 3 years ago and just strummed the guitars.....plucking away.

I fell in absolute LOVE with the Fender American Mahogany Strat HSS and I can't put it down! I'm learning theory, playing Hendrix to Mayer to VH (poorly....for now).

As a consideration, I would rather waste money than my daughters potential love affair with music.

But of course it's not so straightforward. Many people fall in love with inferior music instruments first.

Just musing......

I am fortunate enough to have a 12 year old girl playing bass at home. She is more into Cream and Jeff Beck then the Hannah Montana stuff.

She really wants a Billy Sheehan Yamaha after meeting him (he let her play his a bit) but she wants me to get her a Sadowsky like Tal Wikenfeld has.

She is very unpopular at school most days......

My daughter at the Jeff Beck concert:

There's a pic of me with Jeff also but I'm old and ugly.
