Hi louis1: the Guitar Dater Project has yet to catch up with Korean Fenders. No information to be found there, I'm afraid.

And hi juzzyv, welcome to the Forum.

There have been many Korean Fenders. You cannot identify them from the serial numbers. Show us a picture of your guitar and we'll be able to tell you more about it.

Cheers - C

You want to date your Strat? That might look really strange. Do you plan to go to a restaurant and then maybe a movie? Or maybe your Strat would like to go out to the bar and check out a cool band and do some dancing!! :lol:

Yuk Yuk!

Okay, but seriously, the only Strats I've owned (and currently still own) are two early 90's MIJ 50's HRR Stratocasters and one early 90's HM, so I haven't kept up with all the made in Mexico, China, Korea etc. stuff. But according to this eBay buying guide, it says that if it's made in Korea, it must be a Squier:

http://reviews.ebay.com/Buying-a-Fender ... 0001650626

I didn't see that it said Squier on the headstock when going to the posted photo link so I guess I'm confused about that. Anyway, I went on wikipedia and found some info about Korean Squiers and it says that:

"The S and E serial number prefix Korean Squiers are from the late 1980s/early 1990s. S = Samick, E = Young Chang, E letter serial numbers were used on Young Chang's Fenix brand guitars [3]. The first number following the serial number prefix is the year. For example:

"S9" = made by Samick in 1989.
"E0" = made by Sung-Eum in 1990.
"E1" = made by Sung-Eum in 1991. "

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squier

It doesn't look like there are any Korean serials there. I know that people from Japan and people from Korea look a lot a like to whities (like me), but it really isn't the same place. :P

Thats a very informative post and some brilliant detective work undertaken. People roll up here looking for explanations on their squires quite often, well done mate.

However the OP's guitar is clearly a korean Fender, the ebay link is a little off. Fender have produced many guitars from korea that bear the fender logo, not a squire one. The showmaster, lite ash strat and tele being some of the models. The logo the OP gave a link to looks pretty similar to the korean showmasters. The script of the word fender looks very close (if not identical) to the script on the lite ash's too.

One possibly important piece of info is that for many US models, "E" serial numbered guitars were typically made in the "E"ighties.
