Hi,

I just bought a really nice MIM strat used. It is in great shape. Not really knowing what to look for in a guitar I noticed after I bought it that the strings do not line up with the magnets of the pickups. The are standard single coil. It is most prevalent in the high e string. Any thoughts on the matter?

Thanks.

look carefully at your guitar - notice your string spread is much wider at the bridge than the neck. now look at your pups. they are all the same in magnet spacing. your strings could not all be directly over all the mags unless all the pups were skewed as the bridge pup to diferent degrees. they are of course not. i dont think you have a problem there unless your pups are not correctly located in your pickguard for some reason.

you young guns should not get paranoid about every little thing. if the darn thing stays in tune and like First strat said -it sounds good- just play the damn thing to the point it is totally worn out. thow it away and buy another one and repeat. then your tallent will overcome just about any little worries. Rock on bro :!:

I guess that was not helpful? I took the time to take a pic and post it for reference.

Yes...and the bridge pickup is angled, causing the distances between the poles to effectively be closer as compared to the strings. The strings won't have as much side to side movement by the bridge, but will have quite a bit by the neck as that's the general place where you're moving them. (by picking/strumming) For the bridge/middle pups to be directly under the strings, they'd have to be angled as well. 50+ years with no change......I think Fender would have changed it if it was a problem.

I will take a pic and forward it to you all. The only concern i have is that the high e string volume is definitely lower than the other strings. i rased that side of the pups but it only helped a littte. I also just last night changed the pickguard and it is the same situation.

Thanks.
