I just bought a 1992 US Strat. Now the body is all ash grey its not sunburst or two toned and it has a thin finish on it like the HWY 1. My guitar tec took it a apart to hot rod it and shield the body for buzz. He seems to think that its the original finish, it goes all the way into the pick up cavities. My question is that, does anyone know if Fender put a Strat out like this one in 1992?

Could be a special run or even a nice professional refinish.

Fender color chart shows it could be one of these straight from the factory:

Sage Green Metallic
Inca Silver
Pewter
Chrome Silver

The color is called blonde. After a while it
usually evolves in to a gray, sometimes tward the
blue end of the spectrum. I like the color.

But how about a pic for the gang?
