I played a Custom Shop strat for the first time today in a local music shop. It had a maple neck, I think it was the update from the Closet Classic?? Beautiful orange/red sunburst, not the usual Fender sunburst.

It played incredible. The neck is to die for.....I have to have one at some point in the future 8)

I know what you mean Pete. The custom shop necks are to die for I am curios as I have never seen those necks on any models but custom shop in 30 years. I am wondering if they ever released a non custom shop models with the heavy flamed or birds eyed necks. If I ever get back to playing I am deffinetly going custom shop.

You think their good after playing one in a shop for half hour?
Wait till you've owned one a couple o months and really had time to notice all the little nuances and comfort. You won't go back

Yep — don't know precisely what it is, but custom shop necks feel like they belong to a world where everything is heightened. I'd be surprised if my maple cap '66 time machine neck could be bettered by an original vintage neck... but I'd like the opportunity to find out.

Don't tell me you're thinking of straying from your Jeff Beck model already... :)

NO no no!!!....it's just that while I was looking for a maple neck strat to join the JB I happened to play the Custom Shop. It was one of those moments when the angels sing and the sun shines a little brighter

I just have to have one.....
