I hope ppl realize this is not the first strat knockoff Gibson did. They had THIS:

If that isn't a strat knockoff made by Gibson, then I don't know what is.

I thought epiphone were still their own company when that strat (MII is it?) came out. Would love to find more out about em. Had one for a while in 87, great guitars.

Epiphone Has been owned by Gibson since 1957

Gibson is also making a Gibson USA version of this guitar with a set neck, but it will still be Branded "Hendrix" and not Gibson

Here are the spy photos from the Gibson Blog

Who knows how much this one will cost, but knowing Gibson it will probably be 1,000+... I think it is a horrible idea.. If I want to buy a Strat I'll look at Fender, Tokai, Edwards, Fernandes, Greco, Squier etc... WAY BEFORE GIBSON.

And Jimi looks down at this from above and shrugs, then proceeds to laugh like he did on the Dick Cavett show. Without a word, total disregard for this...

I think its a joke that people think this is such a teribble thing. Just look at how many companies make guitars with strat bodies and there own head stocks. They are not all cheap knock offs either.
A few questions!

So who's complaning and owns one? How does the quility compare to the price of what 250.00 to 400.00 for the different packages? It does not look like they are putting the Gibson name on it so are they building it in colaboration with Hendrix Experience?
I also wonder if the would be so much outcry if it were a G&L Hendrix Strat?

I think there are 2 things going on here. First of all, Jimi Hendrix did play several Gibson models ... most famously his Flying V, but he would also play SGs and Les Pauls ... so Gibson could have made a commemorative Hendrix Flying V, or even SG model ... but instead chose to make what is essentially a Strat rip off ... and sure, lots of folks make them, but not with Jimi Hendrix's name on them. The second thing is that, Gibson ordered PRS to "cease and desist" their production of the Singlecut, due to it's resemblance of a Les Paul, until, after spending I'm sure millions of dollars, PRS won in court. Sort of Hypocritical, isn't it? To force one company to stop making a product due to it's similarity to one of yours, and within a few years turn around and do the same thing yourself?

About G&L ... who knows. I would assume that since G&L was founded by 2 of the fathers of the Strat, if they had made a deal with Authentic Hendrix to come out with a Hendrix "strat" type guitar that people wouldn't be all that upset about it, and understandably so.

as many people who commented on the gibson usa blog, gibson sue anyone who makes a singlecut dual humbucker guitar, or any that look like a les paul. the fact that they are copying another companies signiture guitar, is what's winding people up. it's similar in my mind to Lamborgini (sp?) copying Ferrari.

also reading the comments, unless i'm mistaken, 1 is for the guitar one seemingly neutral, the other 83 are against it, and alot quitte strongly against.
