Did anyone see the Gibson Jimi Hendrix guitars they are selling ?

http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electri ... ndrix.aspx

This is awful. I thought they would release a Hendrix Flying V, but they just blatantly ripped the Strat off. I feel like this was all a big scam to make Gibson and Janie Hendrix a couple of bucks. What are your thoughts on this?

IMHO, it's really not all on Gibson as much as it is the Authentic Hendrix Corp. The partscasters are not branded as Gibsons, they are branded as Authentic Hendrix. I also believe that the Gibson company itself doesn't build them, rather one of the companies the Gibson corporation owns in China builds them. Now I will say the guy in charge of Gibson should have told Janie Hendrix to get the hell out of my office when she brought this and her other money-crazed ideas to the table, but hey, he'll realize his mistake in due time. I just have faith that eventually this will just die out over time, as people who really know Jimi and really know and love his music will never buy a product such as this that has no true spirit, it is just a block of wood that has the guy's name on it.

That is a shame. Another Stratocaster rip off. I was also hoping for a Gibson V model or something, but a Strat rip off...(shudders)

I like this line in the description

Quote:
Design
The shape of some of Hendrix’s favorite guitars inspired the “Jimi” body style.

Sorry, but that Gibson or whatever is Butt Ugly. It looks nothing like the
Fender Strat that Jimi played!

People "used" Hendrix as a bank machine during his whole career and it makes me sad that people are still doing it. I don't think that Jimi would be smiling about this.

I just can't believe it. Wow!

I am going to tell you what is going to happen as Gibson hits an all time low here. They are going to let the Hendrix estate build there strat ripoffs in China with the rest of the crap they want to do then Gibson is going to come out with super high end models of the flying V that everyone has seen the picture of and the SG that he played on the Dick Cavet show so all the collectors can suck em up for outrages prices. I would of had no problem with Gibson doing the V as it is a beautiful ax and so is that SG. But they sold there souls with the strat copies and believe me they are going to lose a lot of respect in the guitar community over this,Here is the link to the interview with the money grubbing step sister www.guitars.co.uk/page/guitarist?entry= ... -about-the

"the neck is bolted on for historical accuracy" WT....in other words we ripped of the strat design. Gibson, which markets itself as made in USA, makes a Jimmi Hendrix strat in China?? This is nuts. I'd rather have a squier standard than this POS.

I didn't believe a salesman in the guitar shop this morning that the Hendrix guitar is a strat ripoff, but Gibson have indeed gone this far off the rails.

This, after their Limited Edition abominations............

I think Gibson are clutching at straws here, after all they are losing big market share to ESP with the younger crowd.

This is a Fender-
http://www.masterseriesguitars.com/ESProto.html
So is this-
http://www.masterseriesguitars.com/flameultra.html

That Gibson has something to do with a Strat copy--big deal.

But I do see some of picked on the merchandising of Hendrix's name--I have a problem with that.

But guitar companies copy each other all the time.

This is hardly new or disturbing for that reason.

Be consistent--if you're putting down Gibson for an association with a Strat copy--then put down just about every guitar company out there--including Fender.

If you're putting them down for using the Hendrix name--I'll agree--to a point. There are other guitars named after dead guitarists--although normally the company selling them is the company the dead guitarist played (for example the SRV Strat.)

A point needs to be made here .... These are not real guitars. They are entry level box sets (just like the Starcaster) aimed at the very beginner.
