Man, this has never happened to me before. I just moved into a new house, and I have this nice studio now in the walk out basement. I was wanting to hang my guitars on the wall in there, but now I am having second thoughts. Currently, all my guitars on in their cases except my old Ventura, it does not have a case and it sit on a stand.

I broke the headstock years ago where it has a joint with the neck. Luckily when it broke, it did so right at the neck to headstock joint, the glue actually gave and the wood did not break. The luthier I took it to did a fantastic job fixing it and making the black finish look like it never broke there. This was about 3-4 years ago. Over this time, I have started to see a small finish crack starting there again, but nothing bad.

Last night I picked up the guitar and started to play it. I noticed the windows had been left open, and the temps here have been very warm during the day (80's) and getting very cool in the evening (50's). The humidity has also been varying. As I play in the open positions, I could feel roughness on the back of the neck around the first through third frets. I turn the guitar around, and sure enough that finish crack was all the way to the fingerboard to the back of the neck.

It is my Ventura (1970's Japanese Gibson L6s copy)

Those guitars were never popular, but the players who have played them or owned them love them.

Mine was a cheap copy, but I have it modified with EMG's. I have always liked this guitars sound, even if its a bit bright. It plays about as good as any guitar you will ever play. Action is low and fast. Anyway, this one is special as it is my first electric from when I was a kid. My mom bought it for me on layway making payments with her hairdressing tip money

I will have to take pic and join one of those sites that will let me host. Honestly, I don't think I have ever even thought to take pic's of my equipment until I bought my strat and joined here.

Can you find the guy who did the job the first time. If so I would bring it back since you said he did an amazing job and have him repair it due to the sentimental value then make sure you case it as the weather seems to be at fault.

Yea, I can still find him, he is established in the area for a log time. The problem is that he is about 45 minute drive or more across town in the city and the place is a hole. But like I said he does nice work.

here is the link:

Anyone from the St. Louis area know any others?
