I would go with the highway one. but thats just my opinion. you should go in to a shop and play both of them and see which one feels better to you.

Hello Ceallach,

Forget about where they're made.
See what features you like.
Both are nice guitars.

Cheers.

I wish I could, but I'm deployed so no shops near, and I got a bonus, so I'm gonna invest in a new guitar. Was gonna get an American Deluxe, but decided I NEEDED a Jaguar HH. So sexy. And the Jag is my absolute fave guitar of all time. So I'm getting that and I was gonna get a Std. Strat, but then the deluxe player's stood out to me and now $@!&, that and the Highway 1 are the same price, so $@!&.

The Hwy 1s have 9.50" radius fretboards as opposed to 12" radius (flatter) on the Deluxe Players.

I've played both and prefer the Hwy1s. YMMV? Just my 2 cents.

I also have played both, and since feel is a totally subjective thing, and very personal opinion, I will tell you something that might help in your decision. I played both through different amps, Fender tube amps, solid state amps, half stacks......and of the 2 that I played, the Hwy 1 sound is generally more ballsy...more punch...while the Deluxe Player had more ring, chime...was a little brighter.
Again, that was only 1 example of each guitar, and I am only relaying the sounds as I heard them in a Guitar Center showroom.

Good luck on your purchase as you really can't go wrong either way.

Play them both. Both are really good guitars. The country of origin should not play a factor in the decision factor. BTW...I love my Highway 1.

I have the Deluxe Players and I like it a lot. It has the added push switch that allows you to use all 3 pickups in position 4 or the neck & bridge in position 5. It also comes with gold hardware (if you are into that) and American Vintage Noiseless pickups. Probably not as hot as the Highway One. It's pretty mellow. I've never tried the HWY One. A nice thing about the HWY One though is that it also comes in a HSS configuration. The DP does not. I also like the finish on the HWY One. I don't think you could go wrong with either one...get both maybe. Best wishes on your deployment.

Eh...I'm already getting an HH Jag, so I'm really looking for an SSS Strat. I think I'm gonna get the Highway 1, but that switching is damn tempting :(

I like the neck and the features on the Hwy 1 better, plus the best part MADE IN THE USA!

and thank you for serving our country man, I can't stress that enough.

So, out of curiosity, are the parts and wiring diagrams out there to potentially ionstall the switching into another instrument?

I know there are diagrams to install the S-1 switching system, which would probably be easier since you can find the parts easily on eBay and whatnot. I'm not sure if the Deluxe Players switch parts are available. The diagrams to install the S-1 system are on this site. I used them to install an S-1 switch on my Squier.

From my limited experience with both guitars I would choose the Hwy 1. Especially since you will be unable to give the guitars a test run before purchase. I played both through a Fender DR RI recently and although I prefered the vintage noiseless pups of the DP, I actually thought the Hwy 1 had a higher build quality than the Deluxe Player. That maybe due to a less than excellent guitar slipping through the QC but never the less I think you should go Hwy 1. Also we played the Deluxe Player through several other amps and it didn't sound as good as the Hwy 1's pups played through the same amp except for the aformentioned Deluxe Reverb. If it was my decision I would take the Hwy 1. You can always get new pups and replace the Greasebucket circuitry with the S1 or other switching systems if you don't like the tone but if you get a Deluxe Player that slips through QC you would have to spend much more to replace a shoddy neck or whatever else. I'm not saying all Deluxe Players are poor quality, far from it. I just believe that the QC of the Mexican shop is slightly lower than the American shop and your inabilty to try out the guitars prior to buying them really hamstrings you.
Hope this helps a bit.

And again I salute you for your service to our country. You're a great American. Thank you for serving.

Russ
