Hi,

I just bought a slightly used fender american standard strat in cherry burst. It s my second guitar and my first fender.I love the guitar but get the feeling it was tampered with by the previous owner. There is a lot of fret buzz and the pickups seem to be adjusted poorly. The nearest good guitar set up shop is in chicago and I would like to save some money. Any tips on alleviating this problem?

Thanks

Matt

Yes. Go to the support section of this site and download the manual. there is a good set-up section in it that goes through how to do exactly what it is you want to check. You will need some basic tools, they are listed in there also. (feeler gauges, ruler, phillips screwdriver, capo, allen key(s), etc.)

It SEEMS involved, but it is not difficult. Might as well as learn how to do it, as it comes in handy and can be fun too!

Not only that but there are a lot of people on the forum who would be more than happy to walk you through the process. Go for it!

I would hold off this one time and go have a pro do it because if you really dont have a clue you can be out of whack for a while. As you just bought it have it set up perfect to your specs then you can slowly get into doing your own set ups.

If u ajust the pickups and make the strings a bit higher the fret buzz will go away as the strings will not catch the frets

Hopefully if you have a book store nearby or order online through the Amazon Dan Elerwine "How to make your electric guitar play grat!" It is only $20 something. I have 2001 edition and it comes with stew-mac radius gauges.
