I borrowed a strat that sounded really good. But the owner has no idea what strat it is. In the back of the neck it says Made In Japan and serial V022667.
I checked the serial and got that it eas made in 96-97. On the back of the head it says 50th anniversary. Its a sunburst with a white sort of greenish pickguard. Is it any one that could tell me what strat this is?

can't help you much other than if it was made in '96/'97 then it's not a 50th aniversary, which means he might have had the neck swapped out.
did he buy the guitar used?

p.s. mint green pickguard.

It definitely can be 96-97 model, accurately it's 1996 model 'cause this year was the 50th for Fender company (I myself have a '96 strat with this golden sticker). Probably it's (if mint green pickguard and V started serial (and probably rw neck and kluson type tuners etc...) '62 Reissue, but need to look at the picture if you need correct answer. Look at the American Vintage 62 reissue, is'nt it similar.
Best regards,
Mel

Thanks! Mel? Is your strat a MIJ? This has a Rosewood neck and mint pickguard. Aged plastic(I think). I'll try to get some pictures of it. Kyle said that it maybe had a swapped neck bur I really don't think so.

No. It's US made. But I know they used similar anniversary stickers.

I'm pretty sure that it is a MIJ "Vintage" or maybe "reissue" Searies Strat. These are Fenders that have a certain period in mind. i.e.: 60's Strats have a Rosewood fret board and 3 ply-pick guard. They also make a "50's Strat." This model has a sinlge ply-pick guard and maple neck.

The "mint green" color was caused by the type of white plastic that Fender was using over the black middle layer of the 3 ply-pick guard. The black color would leak through to the white.

As to the gold sticker on the back of the head stock: During that period Fender was putting a gold "50 years of Fender" or "1956 to 1996" sticker on the back of the headstock. This does not mean that the guitar is an anniversary model. The only 50th anniverary Strat models came out were in 2004. This is a myth that I've been trying to kill for a bit now. Ebay people love to push these guitars as "Annerverary" models to get more money or because they just don't know any batter.

I hope that this information helps.

Paris

The bottom line is that these are really nice guitars made in Japan.
