Bring it on! Nothing wrong with Gibson guitars!

Sadly, most kids today won't really know what Hendrix played. All they will see is the name on the headstock. And all this because Fender wasn't allowed to copyright the body style of the Strat.

Maybe its time for Fender to put out a Les Paul? 2 can play at this game.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Gibson guitars. In my opinion they make some great guitars. If they had made a Hendrix signature SG, Flying V or Les Paul, all guitars which Jimi played at one time or another that would be fine. I just feel there is something wrong with Gibson making an obvious Strat. knockoff especially since Gibson has sued other makers for making copies of their guitars. Remember PRS? On the product page they say "The shape of some of Hendrix’s favorite guitars inspired the “Jimi” body style. C'mon at least be honest about it. It's the Fender Stratocaster body style.

I really do like Gibsons. It's just, I don't know, it doesn't feel right to me.

Fender invented the Strat. Not Hendrix. How can you not be allowed to copyright your own invention?

I'm with flanker

It is the fact that they have made a knock off Strat, used Jimi Hendrix as a brand and not an artist, and priced to compete with the bullet squires.

If it was any other Gibson guitar as a signature model, it would be a completely different story. I would play an SG, ES335, Flying V, even an LP (not my favorite guitar regardless of who's signature)

IMHO it cheapens Jimi's name.

I wish those were a Gibson product.

Made in the Gibson factory: a Jimi V or a Jimi SG or even a Jimi Les Paul.

I agree these things cheapen Jimi's name (and they probably won't be around very long). It also cheapen's Gibson's name to be associated with these things in any way.

I just find it hilarious that in the press release where they talk all about how much Jimi loved his flying-V guitars that they couldn't find a single photo of him playing one. All the photos of him there are cut off at the chest (probably because he has a Strat in his hands). Too funny.

It's not a Gibson. I'm sure Fender laughed and said "no way are we releasing this or putting our name on it." Just don't buy it people.
