Most of the images in this article crop off the guitar, apart from one... where you can see the springs on his STRAT.

Now we need a Ibanez Eric Clapton Signature, a Schecter SRV Signature and a Jackson Slash Signature.

Now being serious. He did use Gibsons a lot mostly for recording, still, Hendrix is SO associated with Fender that Gibson's opportunism in this signature guitar is way too clear for it's own good. Also, Janie loves to milk the fat money-cow that Hendrix' legacy is.

I hate how Authentic Hendrix have made such a big thing out of him using Gibsons. I wouldn't be suprised if Fender turned them down to creating a signature strat.

The Hendrix clan seem to be such a greedy bunch. I am sure its only because Gibson was willing to pay what Fender was not.

Indeed.

Rumour has it that the majority of the Axis bold as love album was recorded with a P90 equipped flying V into a fender bassman. Not the painted V you see pictures of him with.
Yes even little wing, that chimey nearly out of phase sound is that V.

Truth of the matter is that serious gigging musicians cant carry off using JH stuff live. Walk onto a stage with a upside down strat and everyone expects you to be either a guitar god. Thats why there have been 8 or so JH models and only one clapton.

No need to sweat the gibson/hendrix thing. Given gibson prices and the fact that everyone who's ever heard of Hendrix knows he is synonymous with strats. This could be a very short lived partnership. Particularly when Jani doesnt see the $$$ rolling in at her expected rate.

I know he used Gibson alot for recording (still not enough to make such a big thing out of it  ).
He especially used his painted Flying V on his 1967 tour, and then he used them on and off, like all us Strat people do with Gibsons. I was influenced to even buy a Flying V because of Jimi (and Albert King), which I use on and off... But theres no doubt that he liked strats alot more.
I'm just suprised that Authentic Hendrix don't come to Fender..before Gibson anyway.

Jimmy another internet rumour is that they did, but Jani wasnt happy with the percentage of price to go to the hendricks estate, so refused to allow them to use his name. Hence the mexican reverse headstock strat.

its all unfounded rumour, conjecture and supposition. We'll never be privvy to the exact details of such propositions.

Wow...those guitars look like (and probably sound) like pieces of s***. Gibson has really lost it's way. They will release a very limited number of these guitars and they will be sold to dealers and retailer and be done. What happens after that, Gibson could not care less. It seams that most of the stuff they have been releasing has been limited quanitities at rediculous prices.

Interesting that the headstock on the white one looks better then the headstock on the black one. Also the white one looks bolt on.

Pretty tasteless all the way around however. Stupid move by Gibson. Getting the license to make some Hendrix stuff can't be worth the pissed off consumers and fans. Gibson will lose more customers over this then they will gain. Very stupid move by the CEO of Gibson.

Guitarists are a conservative bunch, and something like this will piss off most of them, and we've got looooooooong memories for stuff that offends us and pisses us off.

This is basically Gibson taking a big, fat, steaming, dump on Jimi's grave.

Dumb move.

The problem is, is that parents who aren't guitar savy, but will probably know of jimi hendrix, but not what guitars etc are associated with him, as well as other learners/people who aren't guitar experts won't see what's wrong with it, will just see a full guitar package from a reputable brand, for a good price.

sorry for the long sentence.

as it's coming out just in time for xmas season, I think it will sell well to the parents buying for their kids. Gibsons brand, and product offering, i think will ensure that they don't lose too many sales, as people want a Gibson SG/Les Paul/explorer etc. just as people want Fender strats

I'm speechless....

How disgusting. Maybe I'll reconsider buying a ES335 now.

I certainly hope that FMIC lawyers are sharpening their pencils.

This wouldn't be so bad if the guitar was a SG or flying V or even a 335.All of those were played by Jimi at one time or another...I even have a picture that i think is from Woodstock but im not sure..But to make it like a Strat is just ridiculous.....
I guess Gibson is finally admitting that the Strat is a better guitar
