I was browsing ebay looking at some strats and I came across an upgraded American standard. The seller freely admits that one of the upgrades was an USACG neck, but when you look at the close up picture it has a what looks like a real fender headstock decal. Is this possible?
Thanks,
filerj

Anything is possible. However, there are as many bootleg decals out there as there are stars in the sky, some counterfeits being better than others.

Thanks Martian, I was thinking the decal was fake, but it was a good looking fake, and the seller didn't try to hide anything, he did say it has an upgraded neck. I only wondered because along time ago a friend dropped his strat and broke the neck and fender wouldn't send him a new one with the decal unless he sent back the old one.
thanks,
filerj

If you do a search for Fender waterslide decal you will find a good number of places on the net selling them. Some claim to be real. Some claim to be real and some dont.

Real or fake, the Forum has taken seriously the issue of the availability of this kind of stuff (logos, neck plates) because it lends itself to counterfeiting and fraud.

Yep. Mention names and I'll bet Fender will be knocking on thier door. Or at least a lawyer, or a deputy with a subpoena. :)

What's interesting is that we've been pretty vigilant out here particularly with respect to a Custom Shop neck plate issue which came up several months back. There's been no feedback as to how the company proceeded in that matter.

That still hasn't soured our interests in the issue because we're actually protecting our own interests and those of potential buyer who post us regarding what they've seen and are contemplating.
