It has been my understanding that the bridge pup is the one that always has the yellow hot wire coming out of it. I opened up my "01 MIM Strat last night to find a yellow wire coming out of the middle pup. Both the bridge and neck pup had white hot wires. Does this indicate that the pups were installed out of order at the factory? Has anyone else ever seen a yellow hot wire coming from their middle pup?

I have. It is usually to designate that pickup as RW/RP within that set.

Thanks, Martian.
Wow, that could be confusing. The Hot Noiseless pups specifically designate that the yellow hot comes out of the bridge pup. This is indicated on the installation instructions that come with the pups, and they are boxed so that the bridge pup is at the bottom of the three as they sit in the box.
Am I to assume from this experience that all standard issue pups in Standard Series Strats have the yellow wire coming out of the middle pup?

No. I've seen several color code configurations and oftentimes, none in a set to distinguish non-identical pickups from each other. Sometimes the only indicator is merely the placement of the individual pickup in its OEM packaging. Other times, they may put a color coded dot on the bottom of a polepiece of each pickup instead or, two extra screws into the base of what they've chosen to be the bridge pickup to alter the magnetic field in an attempt to boost the midrange and output a bit. There's all sorts of little things like these plus more. One of which is the distance between the pickups' polepieces in a set where one out of the three pickups has them farther apart than the other two do.

Pop off the cover. Look @ solder joints where pickup windings meet the wire.
Yellow hot on left reverse wound. Take a look @ the pickup with white hot...probably on the right...regular wound.
