Currently I have a MIM Tele sunburst with maple neck.
For my "step up" guitar I'm interested in an American standard strat in candy cola but not sure about the neck.
Is there a difference in sound with rosewood vs maple?
Any pros or cons, advice, etc. would be welcomed.
Thank you,

Eh. All the discussions about tone this and that with all the details. $@!& em I say. It's not enough of a difference to #$@*&!% matter. Get what looks and feels good. Candy Cola I think is complimented by rosewood IMO.

Yep, if there is a difference it is so minute that it doesnt matter.I have both and i have heard the arguments .They both feel different for sure , and my playing technique is slightly different on each, but i cant hear much if any difference.I agree with Martian, candy cola looks better with a rosewood board.I have a charcoal frost mettalic one and its a maple neck.Looks really nice together.

Note: Ceallach was the one who suggested Candy Cola w/Rosewood as an appealing combo. I merely proclaimed Ceallach as, "The voice of reason" as I do agree with his post.

No problem, I just wanted to ensure the credit where it is due.

The difference is absolutely negligable. Heres a comparison vid i did some time back. A rosewood custom classic and a maple deluxe. The guitars have identical hardware apart from tuners and identical S1 wiring and pickups. I used a zoom H2 as a pc microphone and pugged the guitars into my watkins amp. Its a very transparent amp and doesnt colour the tone much at all, as you'll hear.

Difference is miniscule at best. Myself I say maple for everything, its the way strats were originaly and are meant to be (JK).

+1 I would agree that the candy cola would look great with the rosewood.

Now wait a minute here, this is a whole different story!

I know for a FACT that black knobs are better as the tone doesn't get as absorbed in the plastic as much as with the white knobs. My proof? It was posted on the WEB somewhere (I can't remember) by somebody who has a brother who is better than SRV because his Squier Strat has a DiMarzio Super Distortion in it who heard it from his guitar teacher who is better than VH because he heard him play 'Eruption' once along with the CD, blowing Eddie away and he in turn, heard it from his self-proclaimed MASTER guitar tech who just graduated high school (so he must be smart) who swears he read it in one of his, how to" books and even though he can't remember which one or where, he KNOWS it said it somewhere and the person who wrote the book was told this indirectly by a friend of a friend of a third cousin of a staff member of Eric Johnson's who is the HEAD battery tester for him but he won't prove it because he wants to keep a 'low profile'. So here you have it, the TRUTH!!!

One more thing: For best 'vintage' sound, the plastics should be, Parchment all the way. The name of the color alone is a dead giveaway!

Most of the Strats I've owned have had maple boards and the sound has been brighter and snappier. Now I've got two Strats with rosewood boards and the tone has changed. It's meatier and chunkier with a more rounder top end.

I would have to say that there is a tone difference between rosewood and maple. But your personal experiences may vary.

How do they feel different? just curious cuz I've only played rosewood necks.

And can you post a pic of your charcoal frost strat? Sounds beautifull!
