Do you like a trem or hardtail and why?
What type of wood for a body you like Mahogany, Walnut, Swamp Ash and why?
Im just trying to pick your brains. Some of you on here have built your own. So any advice would help.
Thanks!

I like trems. Even when i dont want them I can block them, best of both worlds to me. Wood type matters little to meone way or the other.

I'm with Niki, I have an SRV Strat that is decked and I just got an original '78 that is a hardtail. Neither is by preference really, I just don't use the trem. I play lots of stuff by SRV and Hendrix who both use the trem alot... it's not that I don't like too, I just don't.

Same with body wood, I couldn't care less. Some people think that the body wood affects tone but I sound the same whether I'm playing my SRV that has a rosewood neck and texas specials or the '78 that has a maple neck an as of yet unidentified pickups. I kind of wish the '78 was a different wood but only because it weighs like 27 lbs.

I don't use trems either...well, not much. I DO put an after market trem block in all my strats, though...helps with tone and sustain.

I do use the tremolo, mostly just to add a little vibrato to chords or something like that. I have it set up pretty tight, so I rarely do any dive bomb type things with it. As far as wood goes, I don't really care as long as it plays nice and sounds decent. :)

I like trems.......don't use it a lot........but I'm glad it's there when I do want to use it.

my personal preference visually is ash body and a vintage tremolo bridge. but this is just visual, tone is all about the pickups and amp which is a completely different topic

I like hardtail strats. Anything I am using a lot of vibrato on, it's gonna be on my Jag.

As for woods, Swamp Ash, it's beefier and the extra weight feels good for whatever demented reason.

I just picked up a '72 Telecaster Deluxe, which is my first Fender with a hardtail. It has sustain for days.

You could go and have a bite--still be hearin' that one.

I have a 72 Deluxe Tele as well and the thing just sings... I do find that I miss the trem on this guitar though. Fender introduced a reissue of this same guitar with a trem within the past month or so... man I'd love to have this baby!
