I've never really understood the attraction of PRS guitars. I think Reed's original premise was to take the best of both Fender and Gibson to create a superior guitar. I confess I played one just once, but I wasn't greatly impressed . . . and they are pricey.

Actually I just tried a PRS guitar the other day. That really wasn't very good compared to its price. But then again, that was only one guitar. I probably just got one which wasn't totally up to standard.

Read through the bands you wanted to sound like and didn't bother reading the 3 pages of posts. Tom from blink has his own special model. It's kind of raw i guess, but it's got power alright. Billy-joe also had a fender. Think it was a fernandez with SD Invader pickups. They'll give you the power your looking for. I guess sum 41 pretty much falls into the same category.

Both Tom and Billy Joe uses Gibson now, but you're right. They used to use Fender so if Fender could do it for them, it should be able to do it for me. I just can't help feeling like I'm missing something when I plug one of my friend's Fender with humbuckers into my Marshall after having played with my Gibson LP Studio on it. Like the Fender's more flat or not as dark... I don't know, but something is missing. But that's the only Fender I have tried on my Marshall. I don't know how the HSS would sound.

Thank you for the suggestion even though it broke your heart  You're not the first one to mention that to me, so even though I have a hard time with the design, I'll give it a go sometime!

I wouldn't give up on PRS either the models i have played have been unbelievable although i have played one off the shelf that has been set up horribly. It all depends on who sets the guitars up. If it has a good set up it will play better.

Hi!

I got a Les Paul Studio, but I find it too heavy and uncomfortable and I don't like its neck very much - too thick and hard to slide up and down on. What I would like is one with about the same power and punch in the pickups, but maybe a little more smooth (is that what you call more modern?) distortion sound and one that is lighter. A friend of mine has got a Strat and I like its feel and thin neck very much - maple on the back so it's fast and easy get up and down and rosewood on the front. So I checked out the American Deluxe HSS, but I'm not sure if that will satisfy me when I'm used to the power of my LP.

What do you guys think? Can the HSS deliver? And by the way how light is a Strat in general? I think my LP is around 9-10 lbs...

I play modern and hard rock and punk(-pop) like Sum 41, Green Day, Foo Fighters, blink-182, New Found Glory, Motion City Soundtrack, Yellowcard, Linkin Park (etc.), but I would like to be able to play some bluesy and slightly distorted tones as well like some of Bryan Adams songs for instance.

I play through a Marshall JCM2000 TSL100.

If the HSS can't deliver the sounds I want would it then be a good idea to put another pickup in the bridge, or will another guitar fit my needs better? Will the S-1 switching system work if I change the bridge pickup?

Sorry for the long post - hope you get through it and can help me. Thanks :)
:? :| I have a Fender DVO Sonic and the fret board is'ernt very comtabale. But I don't no what you meen :? :?

Another good option is a musicMan Luke- I have one of these and with the Active EMG's in HSS config you have a lot of tonal options.
They are also very light (about 7-7.5 lbs)

I gig with mine sometines when I don't want to take both my Strat and PRS
It means I can take one guitar - nice necks as well - like a small asymmetrical V.

SG's are ok but I struggled (still struggle) with the Fret positions in relation to the body, They are unlike any other guitar i've played. When I go for the 12th fret I generally hit 14 or 15. So make sure you try one of these before you buy.

Another flexible guitar which I have is a Gibbo ES335. great for blues and classic rock- not so great at the really high gain stuff though on account of the hollow body (beautiful to play mind).

so you have lots of options. I would get out and try a bunch of the suggestions in this thread.
Not sure what rig you use but I wouldn't be afraid to take it to the shop if they don't have anything the same. I recently boght a custom shop 60's relic and took my whole pedal board in to the shop to try it. You are investing a lot of money so you need to make sure it's right for you.

Hope this helps some

cheers
