Does it still exist? for the past few weeks, I have been in pre-shopping status for a Strat that would be natural ash body (natural wood finish), with a maple fretboard and white pickguard. I have seen photos of these on the Internet. But not on Fender's website or any website of music stores in the Houston area or in person in stores in Houston. However, I have seen natural ash Strats with Rosewood fretboards. So, does what I am looking for still exist, is it available anywhere? OR, would I have to buy one with the rosewood fretboard neck and then purchase a neck with a maple fretboard and then have them swapped out? Thanks.

Hi mldevore: finishes come and go. The look you describe is particularly associated with the 1970s. I notice that the American Vintage '70s model is available with a choice of either fingerboard (though the maple one happens not to be pictured):

http://www.fender.com/products//search. ... 0100070821

And further down the catalog the Classic Series '70s Strat is available in maple or rosewood. Here's the maple version:

If you don't like the big '70s headstock then currently the only option would be to mix and match a body and neck.

Any use to you?

Cheers - C

PS Oops: written simultaneously to Voodoo Blues' post, above...

I'm also looking for one.
I want one like this though: http://www.stratcollector.com/inventory ... 80130.html
I think '70's strats are alot nicer looking to pre-CBS (especially with the big headstock)... There alot more bolder looking

But as Ceri said, American Vintage do one exactly to your specs (in looks anyway).
Maybe you could even go for the Mexican Classic Series one if you don't wanna' spend over £1000.

Make sure you play it first. The look is fine, but I think you could make an argument for that particular period in time being the absolute low in Fender quality. I was a Fender dealer back then.

A current reissue would be the way to go. IMHO

Yea. I wouldn't buy an original 70's without playing it first. I'm not one for originals anyway.. I'd much prefer have re-issues if truth be told.
