The reason the later 60's strats with the maple fingerboard don't have skunk stripes is because they used a 2 piece design with a laminated maple fingerboard as opposed to the earlier one piece design with the truss rod installed from the rear. This is why Hendrix's strats with a maple fingerboard don't have the stripe. As an aside, if you want one made like that, you can have them made by Musikraft.
