Although, I love the guitar in the wall paper with the red flames. I would like to make a custom body with the candy cola finish and flame it out like my motorcycle.

Mate, make a guitar that looks like that bike and you'll put every builder in the world out of business. I say do it

Hello Texryder,

Here is a photo of Eddie Van Halen's Frankenstrat
Back in the day Eddie compiled a batch of dissimilar parts
and concockd this iconic Axe. He later made a few variations.
His original had Charval body and neck, 2nds at that. Fender has
issued a frankenstrat. Maybe not the first Hotrodded guitar but no
doubt the most acclaimed.

Cheers.

I'm confused :? How do the pickups stay in place if they aren't mounted to the pickguard or the body?

Hello Democratis,

The pickups are screwed to the body, the
humbucker you can see the screws on the
sides of the pickup. Also the neck pickup is
non-functioning and the middle is just a wee
bit of rubbish tucked in there.

Here is ia good website to learn more.

Cheers.

You might want to start with a lower priced donor instrument and modify that before you get into the real frankensteining. Squiers are good for this sort of thing.

Here's what I did to a Squier Standard Strat:

Image

This has graduated locking Sperzel tuners, a new hand cut tusque nut, tusque saddles, fretwork/polishing, Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 Pro pickups ('lil59 humbucker in bridge), re-wire with treble bleed & grease bucket circuits and new scratchplate. It plays beautifully and sounds good enough to hold it's own against my 2 Fenders. But - it cost me more in parts in parts/donor instrument than I'll ever get for it. I could have bought a US Std Strat with the same money..

With a project like that under your belt, you can follow the really talented guys here and build something extraordinary.

I read somewhere, where I guy took a MIM and put Texas special pick ups in it and said it sounded great. I just bough a candy cola american strat, it shouldn't hurt the value of it if I put in the Texas special pick ups should it?

Texryder why do you seem so worried about the value. First you talk about building a Frankenstein and it holding value then you talk about swapping out your pups on your standard and if it will hurt its value. Are you a player or looking to make money. Well either way if you swap out your pups just save them and dont route your guitar and put in a humbucker and then you can sell it and not lose any resale value. Your questions kind of threw me off as I am trying to figure out your angle. Ryan how dare you call your strat a Frankenstein that is more like Pamela Anderson. I still am amazed you built that as I thought it was custom shop all the way from the other post. I still stand by what I said. It is one of the best looking strats I have ever seen.

No angle here stray cat, not like I'm trying to sell you anything. Just a newby who dropped a grand on a new guitar who would hate to do something stupid and ruin its value. 1st guitar lesson this Friday.
