What's ya'lls opinion on a Frankenstein? I started to build one before I bought my standard but was afraid it wouldn't hold any value. I'm new to this guitar thing and was curious about the responses.

First off let me say that I am by no means educated on values of guitars. But, it has been my understanding that partsocasters never hold value as well as a name brand, all stock piece.

The main reason poeple build partsocasters is: To get the exact specs they want out of a guitar. Then you get some people like me who build them for giggles. But, few build them for investment or collectible value.

Hello Texryder,

Frankenstien guitars, I love em.
From contempory to the zany, people
come up with neat stuff. I may try my
hand at it myself. These projects are
labors of love, few ever produce profit.
Can't put a price on cool.

Cheers.

do it! if you decide to go for it, just remember to go all in, dont try to take short-cuts or cheap-cuts.

Hello Ryan3985,

That one turned out real nice, great pickguard.
Are they vintage noisless pickups?

Cheers.

Very nice guitar. Is the pick guard a birds eye maple?

If you are referring to the Van Halen Replica Strat it's the absolute ugliest guitar on the face of the earth.

Hello Texryder,

Here is a photo of Eddie Van Halen's Frankenstrat
Back in the day Eddie compiled a batch of dissimilar parts
and concockd this iconic Axe. He later made a few variations.
His original had Charval body and neck, 2nds at that. Fender has
issued a frankenstrat. Maybe not the first Hotrodded guitar but no
doubt the most acclaimed.

Cheers.

Your right, that is a pretty ugly guitar. You'd have to play like Van Halen to pull it off. I passed up and American Standard body on Ebay for $180 because I wasn't sure I wanted to tackle a custom. I probably should've bought it and put it up for later.

Although, I love the guitar in the wall paper with the red flames. I would like to make a custom body with the candy cola finish and flame it out like my motorcycle.

I´m building a Frankenstein, custom body as a 62 reissue, alder, electronics, pickups, tuners, bridge taken out from a 94 american standard, with the original rosewood neck, the thin one, and the finish is going to be natural matched to the color of the headstock.
I guess my strat u could call it a true fender frankenstein.
I cannot post pictures, how do u do it?

I would say a very important thing is to know what you want, maybe make a very complete list of exactly what you want .
This may help you along the way not to get sidetrack and keep tabs on exactly what dimesions you want/need to mix everything together (i.e. neck/neckpocket)

as for my frankenstein above, those are lace sensor hot gold pickups and the pickguard is made of birdseye maple.

Fender should copy that Frankenstein and sell it. Love the Gold touches and the birds eye maple.

Hi Texryder: a couple of other people on the Forum have talked about customising their guitars to match their bikes, but as far as I'm aware nobody has actually done it yet.

If you know the guy who painted the tank on your bike it would be no sweat for him to do a similar job on a guitar body. Then bolt it back together, photograph the two together and post the pix here!

You'd get a lot of kudos, for certain!
