Welcome to the forum!

If your guitar is a solid colour, it's unlikely to be ash. If you have a transparent or sunburst finish and you can see quite a bold grain pattern showing through, it could be made of ash. Alder is the more commonly used wood. Ash is more porous, so finishes tend to sink into it more. You'd have to use more coats of expensive paint to cover ash satisfactorily, and then you'd lose the attractive figuring of the wood.

i found out from fender that its a alder not ash, it was confusing me because the box given to me ,i always ask 4 them when they are new, wasnt the same serial number and it said ash tobacco burst and it sorta looks like that, but it turns out its a 2 tone burst with mint green pguard and check this out its a V-NECK no wonder it fealt different to me, i am glad its the v neck, turns out i like it its got an awesome flame to it andd the deep grains on the finish looked ash at first. Everything u typed about check ash/alder is absolutelty correct by the way i will see i f i can upload some pics cause i am sorts new at this let me know what u think? also my friend is manager at the store it was sitting on the top row away from children and abusers lol!, for like a while and i never reallt took notice to it myself!t was sorta hidden up there anyway with the trade in trade up 15% off and labor day specialnsale the trade in trade up was over at end of august but since he help me for yrs he said to wait until the labor day weekend thingy sale to buy a git initially i went for a plain old american standard but i played everyone they had there at the time and the one that stood out was a chARCOAL FINISH it first i went for a burst job but those just didnt have the mojo u know? so he hands me this beast and i pluggd in and whalla i took found what i wa slookin for s-1 turns out works well with a bassman amp i will see if i can upload some pics i am sorta new at that so here she is thanks@ i cant figgure ot the pic thing yet
