Hi CedricDiggory,

Damn, that was a mighty pretty song. Very nice to listen to. I hadn't heard the Deer Hunter theme in a long time. Very impressive.

First, Welcome!
Second, no technique? Sounded real good here! Never get down on yourself, there are plenty of other people in this world who can do that for you.
Third, song sounded great! Not my style, but I still loved it!

Keep up your excellent work!

Hiya Cedric

Thanks for that mate. One of my alltime faves and very well done. I have a question though.

Did you use the john williams (original) version for the 2nd guitar and adopt the Hank Marvin style for the main guitar?

Beautiful bit of work there mate. Particularly loved the reverb and partial note swells. What amp/reverb did you use?

@all: thanks for listening :'D
and thanks for all of your beautiful words xD
i always thought that i will get a lot of complains here, really xD

@sandy: thanks for listening : D

@Arcarix: helo~ xD
oh well, i believe that all players must have techniques to play the guitar beautifully,
but now i just only can follow the notes, really
i don't know what should i do when i play this part, or that part...

now i only know how to play the "wah" sound like violin as Hank Marvin did,
after nearly a whole night trying to figure out...

@nikininja: actually it's the song which i always dreamed that i could play,
when i didn't start learning how to play guitar haha xD

yeah, for the 1st guitar, i played the finger style,
and for the lead guitar i followed Hank Marvin's style
<of course there're still a lot of mistakes, and well, nervous also, when recording i couldnot play as normal>

i used the BOSS Digital Reverb RV-5
http://www.bosscorp.co.jp/products/en/RV-5/index.html

with the settings:
E.Level: 2 o'clock
Tone: 12 o'clock
Time: 12 o'clock

Let your fingers follow the notes, your heart will guide your path, and that will be YOUR technique.

Thanks again for your post of the excellent music.

There is a great tip that i discovered some years ago with playing and confidence. It is based of all things on race car driving. If a driver loses control and goes into a skid. He will look (focus) on where he wants to be going, not on what is happening to him in the skid. Some literaly stare in the direction they want to go. Their natural ingrained ability and experience with the car will get them there 80% of the time. Like guitar playing mistakes there are a lot that no one notices during the course of a race.

Well the same thing applies to guitar, particularly to reading music. Focus on where you want to be going with a piece of music, not what your doing in the ever passing 'Now'.

If rendition of Cavatina is making mistakes then let me make mistakes forever. Loved it.

Hello CedricDiggory,

Firstly, welcome to this forum.

I'm looking forward to hearing the tune
but my computer is blocking it for some reason.
My son 'll get it for me.

Cheers.

Well done CD - nice work.

I learned Cavatina as a solo piece back in my youthfull classical guitar days. Even at grade 5 level it's a $@!&* to play. Combining the aprepeggios and the melody to play together was the real challenge.

But I think in your version you did what I'm sure John Williams did, which was to record the 2 parts seperately. You just can't get the legato and feel on the top line by playing it solo, even though techbnically it's possible to do a passable job. So you're in good company!

As a novice player (really?) you've done a great job. Did you use sheet music or transcribe the chords yourself? I notice one or two of them weren't quite right, but who cares? The overall effect is 1st rate.

Some history if you're interested and didn't already know:

Cavatina was written as a piano piece by the composer Stanley Myers. John Williams liked it and asked him for a guitar transcription. William's subsequent version was taken up for the the Deer Hunter sound track.
Cleo Laine recorded the lyrical version "He Was Beautiful" on the Laine/ Dankworth/John Williams crossover album. This was back in William's jazz experimental period before founding the contempoarary instrumental group "Sky". The big hit was the lyrical version taken into the charts by the singer Iris Williams..

So what's the next project then!

Sometimes, when you need to speak an emotion, the only language that will do is music.

Try the Beatles "She's Leaving Home" and take it from there. :cry:

Hang in there matey..
