With decent PUs (not standard) a MIM strat *can* be brilliant.

if you're refering to the deluxe players strat mim (you did say deluxe in your first post) i think i can be of some help to you. i own a deluxe players strat mim and i absolutely love it. i played 2 at guitar center when i bought mine, and both sounded great. i also played a few americans that day, and the noisless pickups in them make them pretty comparable to american standards, but without putting such a dent in your wallet. they have great tone and feel to them. the fact it's made in mexico means nothing to me besides the small writing on the headstock, it really feels like an american in my opinion

You know you'd be hard pushed to buy anything better than the "Classic player" series...i've owned the 60s and now own the 50s one...as i like it better...i've played loads of strats from a genuine 64 to the American Deluxes and to be honest this things feels as good and indeed better than most of them!..I realise that sounds a tall order for a relatively cheap guitar...but people simply can't get them in the UK with Fender saying that there was a 2month waiting list up to mid September I think it was....so do yourself a favour, try one...check the reviews...good luck either way.

Well the classic 50s players pickups..57/62s sound evcellent with no need for any such upgrade...and the 60s one also.

Here's a guy on utube demoing his shoreline gold 50s classic player! also they're not to be confused with the 50s and 60s classics...great guitars also.

I looked at the American Delux strat, but the price tag was way too high to justify the purchase. I went with the MIM standard strat . It's got what I need. I did add the locking tuners and plan to upgrade the pickups to Seymour Duncan eventually. The setup needed to be adjusted but the guitar looks clean and plays very well. It's my main guitar now. Lot's of tone variation!

I lugged around a MIM strat for a couple of years. I used it for parties and such where it might get a little banged up. MIM's are fine, you just have to do your homework and play a bunchof em till you find one that feels good to you. Drop some decent pups in it ( I went with some Lace Sensors) and you got a decent guitar for very little scratch.
