I am looking at getting a hard case for my Strat. Right now I just have a gig bag but I want more protection for her.

Any recommendations on which ones to look at? I was thinking about getting the new style cases that come with the new Standards. Less then $100 so the price is right.

for those of you who have this case, what do you think of it? Do you like it better then the older version?

I was looking at the Tweed ones and I really liked all the extra sorage they had.

I don't fly with the Strat so I do not need a airline approved one. Just something decent to tote her around town in.

any other recommendations on a hard case that you all can offer? It would be nice if it said Fender on it. But that is not a must have. Just a preference. The only ones I'm not interested in are the ones from a few years ago that had that strange shape. Like half an accoustic hard case shape. Those I don't care for.

I had a molded fender case for a Strat It was OK but the metal seal strip gets easily bent then it's a pain to close. I have a $50 Tweed case from MF and really like it. I baby my guitars so I don't need a bullet proof case but I wanted something more than a gig bag. If you want a molded case I would lean towards a SKB. Gator makes some nice one's too There is a fender tweed case for $140 that has a few color choices but I don't think it has the logo like the old vintage black one's had

Hello Scot06,

I think along the same lines as you.
{case wise at least}. I like the G&G case the best
you got your tweed, black, brown, tan, creme, western tooled
tolex or even real leather if your pockets are deep.
Lavish interiors of red, green, blue, black and my
favorite orange. Poodled or velveteen texture.

Keep in mind if you don't find the case in the combination
you like you can give G&G a call and they'll custom make you
one just the way you like{no Fender logo}appx $180.

Here is a link
http://www.ggqualitycase.com/new/about.html

So many choices.

Cheers.

I own that one, and, while it is decent for the money, it is a little flimsy

I have this one too and it is VERY nice for the money. It seems much more sturdy. MF puts sales on these cases all the time and I think I got mine for 69.99.

I use SKB cases, they're cheap- and indestructable- within reason of course. I like the SKB-66 cases :D

Find one of these in America and buy it.

They were available here for $59 an absolute steal of a price.

I took my guitar all over the world in one of them and even watched italian baggage handlers throw it across the runway. It still houses a jackson under my bed. The things tremendous. Air/watertight, fully flightcase spec'd. Far better than anything else i've ever used
Thats not my one in the photo. I took the photo from a site cos i'm far too lazy to dig mine out..

Look used too.

I bought an old, semi-beat up, completely hollow (no internal padding at all) Calzone flight case for like $25 years ago. I went to JoAnn Fabrics and bought the foam, cut out a layer for my specific guitar to form fit it, and got the black fur lining. Cost me like $45 total and it's been to countless gigs and touring, and is loaded with stickers from all the places I've taken it.

I'd recommend finding a used flight case. As long as it's not broken, a little beat up isn't bad and will save you tons on a lifelong case for your prized possession.

I like, and just recently bought, a Gator Hard case for electrics. Very similiar to a G&L, around $75.

Personally when it comes to cases, I think that SKB is about the best. Gator's are decent and TKO's are really good too (although I think that TKO may be out of business now). In fact I have a TKO for my Ovation acoustic and it's quite comparable to the molded Fender case I have for my Strat.

Now that said, I also have one of those $50 tweeds...got mine from Amazon.com actually and I do really love it! No...it does not provide the same level of protection as an SKB or Gator, but it's pretty decent...and certainly about 1000 times better than a gig bag! In theory a case should be something that protects your instrument but I have to admit that there really is something appealing and stylish to me about "tweed"...I'm just a sucker for tweed.

For me it really depends a bit on where I'm planning on taking my guitar. If it's just over to a friends house to jam or for practice or even an average gig, the tweed does a fine job...and it looks really sweet to boot. If however I were traveling "cross country" or something and/or I had a ton of gear packed that could potentially fall on and damage the guitar, then I'd go with one of my molded cases instead.

BTW...don't feel as though you need to buy "new" here. Unlike a guitar where you have to worry about the electronics, the neck and a plethora of other things, typically a case is just a case...as long as the hinges are secure and the latches work right, there's not a lot to worry about when buying a used case. I bought my tweed case new because...well...it was only $50 and I really wanted a tweed case! I got my molded Fender case with my '96 MIM Strat (which was also new). Other than that, I think every other case I own I got used...with a couple of them it even saved me the trouble of having to find new bumper stickers for them! LOL!!! Seriously...check around on Ebay, Craigslist and even your local music shops...you can probably save yourself a few bucks.

Alrighty, just my $.02 worth,
Jim

Back in reality, your case serves only one purpose. It protects the guitar! To this end, any right-fitting and functioning hard case will work. A $60 hard case works just as good as a $200 hardcase.

I'd encourage you to recognize that a hard case cannot really make you look any more cool. Buy the cheapest case that does the job. :

..............I've always had issues with the logo being plastered all over the case. That sort of thing advertises 'come and get me time.' I'm usually not taking a case which screams "Fender Plus" or "Gibson Historic" to a location where security might be in question.

That's a great point, Doc! Carry your nicest guitars in a 4 year old beat up case!! I like it.

I often use a gig bag in that it's Fender's practice to supply a lot of their low end gear in something of that sort. Carry's well on one's back. Leaves hands free to carry the two Deluxe amps which Eldred maintains one should have. :P

Thanks for the links

I do like the one in the bottom link. The main thing I am looking for is a nice fit for a Strat and to have the area up near the headstock and on the side/s of the neck to be a seperate storage area. That way I have extra room for a pedal and cables, tuner and so on. These type of cases offer more storage then a standard that just has the middle area for storage and the area by the headstock/neck is just open space.
