Exactly. The thing is the value and price ratio. I feel like buying a vintage series fender is worth more per dollar than say a relic or a gibson. Not only do they have those classic looks, feel, vibe but most importantly tone. They sound fantastic. How is the USA 70's series. I have always been interested in them but can never find one in stores. Also I orded my strat through sweetwater which I highley recommend as well.

Sweetwater is great, the people there are always cool and helpful, The 70's reissue is amazing, i love the big headstock, everythign about it is perfect for me at least, the only concern i had was the pickups tend to be a little noisy at higher gain, i ordered a set of hot noiseless(the jeff beck one's) they come in vintage white, so i had to get a mint green pickgaurd and knobs, so i am currently awaiting those then i will have my ultimate strat!, but even stock its still amazing, the pups sound great, just sometimes the 60 cycle gets on my nerves lol, but hey its a strat i guess that comes with the package ya know!

Definatly check one out if you get a chance. I highly suggest it!! i will post some pictures of it soon, got the maple fingerboard and 3 tone sunburst.
In the man time, Enjoy your strat! Lets have a race to see who can collect all the vintage series first! hahaha lol
take care man
Ian

But wait. What's the finish/colour you got it in?

First off, just to say, I saw a mention of someone ordering from Sweetwater. Never order a guitar unless its a 4k custom. Guitar manufacturing is not but close a science. If I go into a music store and they have 10 of the same strats. One will really stand out, and you will notice suttle dfference in all of them, at least after playing 40 years I do.
The custom shop ones are pretty consistent and the MIM stuff amazes me on the quality. Buying a guitar is like sleeping with a woman, trust me you will find difference from guitar to guitar, and if they ship you a lemon, your stuck trying to get it fixed. Homework, go into a store that has more than one of the same model, play them and you will see what I mean.

I totaly understand where you are comming from. Buying an instrument is a very intimate process. However buying a quality guitar is especialy difficult when there are few music stores in your area. After five years of playing though I have invested many dollars and trust into Fender products because of my experience with them.

I have had both experiences... I have a '90 Es-335 that was given to me as a present that never felt good to me... until I had it set up years later...

I have a '95 Gibson Les Paul that came straight I bought after making the store open a few boxes... The second one really spoke to me...

With my new '57 Strat one that I bought that day but I had second thoughts and wanted to compare it to another one of the exact color and specs (the '57 commemorative ed. strat). A week later they got 2 more in and I went back and played all 3 side by side... I gotta say they all sounded GREAT but cosmetically there were subtle difference The one I originally bought had beautiful wood grain in that you could see in the white blond finish of the body but the maple in the neck was not as clean as one of the newer ones they got in... I ended up exchanging mine for the one with the cleaner neck and ok wood grain in the body as opposed to the great body and fair neck... Yes, I have OCD!
