In the early '80s, I bought a '62 Strat RI from a reputable music store. I believe it was the first year the RIs were made. I paid around $700 & another $100 got me a tweed case. I still have it & it's in great shape. The only thing I have done is replace a couple of saddles. Also, the nut has a small chip above the low E but never has been a problem.

SN begins with a "V"; Red sunburst; 4 bolt; white pick guard; rosewood(?) fretboard; 5 pos switch

My questions are:

When & where (country/plant) were the first RIs made?

What (ball park) is it worth, providing that it is indeed from the first year or so the RIs were made?

ANY help would be helpful. I have waded through site after site & can't find this info.

Hi Hughlyn
The reissues first appeared around 82. As for value, its worth whatever someone will pay. I'd look for around £1000, given the current climate that may be too high.

WOW, you have a keeper there, pal!

If I didn't just drop a ton of cash on my new '89 '62RI, then I'd buy yours for 3200 easily.

a mint '82 is worth easily 2000-4700.

HOWEVER

you, sir, have an '83.

I suggest you visit my friends at The Fender Reissue at this site:

http://www.fenderreissue.com/

they have info on everything you need to know.

could you post some pics please? I'd love to see this baby!

peace,

chandler

Thanks to you all for the info. I went to one of the sites where you can run your SN & get some limited info. IAccording to the SN search, my strat was made at the Corona plant. I have read some post, somewhere, that mentions that Fullerton vs Corona is now a topic of interrest.

I just wanted to know if mine was MIA or MiM or MIJ. Also, I had seen ,62 RIs on Ebay going for around what I paid originally.

Thanks to you and this Fender site, I now know that I own one of the better ones. I love the guitar and at this time I am not selling because I use it from time to time.

I just got lucky and bought the one that was on the market at the time and it has turned out to be sort of special, however, she's always been special to me.

Thanks again for the help & I plan on visiting the other web site mentioned in one of your replies.

Buck
