In a listing for a GC, a Black RW is listed on their site for $399. I wonder how many are going to start to hit the 'used market'?

It's an Indianapolis GC.

That's actually a fair price for the RW's. It leaves room for upgrading the pups. As much as I hate the RW's I might bite at that price just to have another beater guitar.

Now thats the kind of price they should be new. Its obvious from the generic nature of the relic'ing that its machine done. So why pay the hand relic'd surcharge.

Isn't the relic basically the space they didn't paint over? LOL

Roadworn's are dumb.

I take pride in all the scratches and dings and chips and nasties in my guitars from me putting them there.

I feel the same way and would consider buying a used one if it felt and sounded good.

I would pay 399 for one but for 949?Keep dreaming. When i bought my American Standard in Feb, I tried a few of them out. They had quite a bit of fret sprout and the innotation was off on the ones that i tried At that time the $@! were 999.I couldnt see paying 50 dollars less for a reliced MIM Standard with a few upgrades without a case.I would seriously doubt that they are flying off the shelf at 949 now.

Me too, but if it's really cheap it would be a good beater with new pups. I'd have to put some new dings and stickers on so I wouldn't look like a tool if somebody else had the same model. Maybe I'd carve my name in it and make it a signature model.

What you are calling fret sprout is actually the wood shrinking around the frets. This obviously can happen with any guitar in the entire world no matter what it costs because it is after all made of wood.

But i have 3 other strats and never had fret sprout.Fret sprout was the least of the problems with the road worns that i tried. One had the pickgard warped so bad that the bridge pickup was almost touching the strings.

If the wood shrinks that fast there's a serious, serious problem with the wood. My Supro is 46 years old and my frets are tight same with my 57 Dano. I've never seen it on ANY of my old guitars. The wood should be properly dried before the guitar's even built. Even my $95 1975 Ibanez Concord acoustic's frets are tight. I live in Pennsylvania and we have four seasons here.

I had a Malmsteen Strat that was brand new. Great when I got it but later on I left it out on my guitar stand for about 2 or 3 months with no humidifier in my apartment. Guess what? I screwed up the wood big time. The wood actually shrunk and dried out around the frets in addition to other areas as well.

It's not Fender's fault. The fault lies with the owner and the store that keep these guitars until purchase. The safest place for a guitar is in the case. Not being displayed.

The simple fact is that fret sprout is a common problem affecting everything from £4K cs's to £50 encore guitars. Luckily its easily addressed and if done properly doesnt return. It stems from builders not being able to guarantee how certain pieces of timber are going to react over time. You cant honestly expect a manufacturer that gives a lifetime warranty on their products to keep guitars knocking around for 6 months just to check something so minor and common. Especialy when you can take the thing to a service center and have it repaired in minutes.

I too tried the roadworns when they came out and like many others couldnt get past the price. For the amount of slating the american standard has had lately i certianly see little at that price point to compare to it. The roadworn being the most glaring of comparisons. $499 though, that seems the right price for what could easily become with little work a very cool looking (if you like aged), very smooth and sweet sounding instrument.

When they hit that price in the uk theres a space for a black 50's in my house.
