I have a 1993 Strat Plus and it seems that with the saddle height adjustment screws all the way down, the strings are still too low for my taste.

The guitar has a micro-tilt adjustment, but that takes the neck in the wrong direction. Then the thought hit me that I could raise the entire bridge assembly using the two screws on the two-point tremolo.

Am I working in the correct direction? Is this advisable? Any better route to take? Any things to look out for?

Thanks for all your great help! This site and the peops here rock, literally!

Ok it sounds like the strats trem needs to be set back to factory before you go any further. Loosen the strings take the springs off the tremblock. Now adjust the screws till the baseplate of that trem sits flat along the body with no pressure applied.
That should help, it sounds to me like the pivot posts are too far into the body.
Next step if that doesnt get you far enough (which i just cant see) is to loosen the micro tilt right off. Before doing that you may want to check neck relief.

You shouldnt adjust string height by the pivot posts on a strat ever, its not a floyd rose system. Even on floyds when you have to turn those post screws you need to remove the trem from the posts. Turning those post screws with the trem in contact is the quickest way to ruin the posts and ruin the trems tuning stability/return to pitch.

How high do you want the strings?

Hey Ninja, thanks for that info. I have the 6th string just a tad under 3mm now. Neck relief at about 0.010. Micro-tilt is at zero (just snug so it doesn't rattle or fall out)

I have all my strats set factory... about 1/8" from the bottom of the bridge plate to the face of the body.

OK, I had to read your instructions again. Now I get it... correct setting for bridgeplate without tension.

Naturally, I'd remove the string tension before adjusting the two-point pivot screws. (good point)

The guitar is so sweet. I should probably spring for a pro setup.

Thanks for your great help.

Well now on that note heres my tip for life. If your unsure of getting the desired result yourself, befriend someone who can. Get em to do your guitar and watch them do it. I even ask questions too. Any friend wouldnt mind telling you, just buy em some beer as payment. If your lucky you may even get to drink it with em whilst you try the new setup out.
As mentioned in another thread this last 2 weeks gone, its the people that act like its a closely kept secret that you need to avoid. Like with good resteraunts they should let you see the kitchen if you want to.

I should have been more specific. Frets leveled, crowned and polished, touch up some missing neck laquer, etc. Sorry but I'll leave that to the pros.

However, tomorrow I plan to put the removed Lace Gold back in, correct the bridge height and adjust the Tremsetter and restring. I better get busy... I've got to burn the current set of strings up before tomorrow!

Well I got the gold installed in the bridge OK. wasn't planning on it but when I backed off the strings and pulled the trem springs, it was real easy to lift the bridge assy. out, lay it (and the strings) off to the side and fire up the old Weller solder station. No need to restring!

Also added about 3/4 turn to the Micro-tilt and everything is getting dialed in nicely. Now I just have to do is reinstall and adjust the tremsetter.

I think I'll get the Planet Waves fret polishing kit and do the funky polish... not to be confused with the polka!
