Well, you DEFINITELY need a good amp and since you already have some very nice guitars you don't REALLY need this one.................or do you ?!? :D

You think you're in trouble?... I bought three strats in the past two weeks! If it feels right, do it.

You've been doing right by your 'handle' for at least the two years of my memory on this forum. If memory serves me, we've seen your collection, haven't we?

Doc

Not yet - I deffinitely need to do this! I got some strat work done tonight that I was going to do tomorrow (thanks Ninja!) so perhaps I'll have some time tomorrow to do a group shot!

Welcome to the world of the 95/96 MIM. I can honestly tell you that my favourite guitar was my cheapest. A mere £200 13/14 years ago (foggy memory). Of all my guitars (customshop included) that neck is favoured above all else. Its got new tuning machines, body, bridge, nut, pickups attatched. As you know though its still the same guitar (kinda) .
A highly addictive guitar that I'll happily die defending then be buried with. (In truth their a hit or miss affair. The good ones were jaw dropping the bad ones were awful at best. My singers one is a very mediocre instrument).

What i'd do is have a chat to the store owners, you are obviously a recognised face to them. Ask about buying your amp through them too and see if you can work a bit of a deal that suits yours and their budgets. They will undoubtedly be happy that your buying through them (turnover is everything at the moment to stop the banks forclosing) even if you order a brand they dont usualy carry.

As Stephen Hawking said communication is the key to life. We'll be ok as long as we keep talking (british telecom advert  )

Nikninja,

I was just sitting here and was thinking of this reply. You stated the 96 was a hit or miss as far as being a good guitar. The one I played was definately better than any 07 to 09 MIM model I have played on recently, it played better than my Squier CV 60 (and it is great) but not as good as my Fender HWY 1. I should go see him again Monday morning and play it again to see if I REALLY need/want it...more so than an amp right now. As far as amps go, he is not able to order a Fender Superchamp or a Blues Junior, not a licensed Fender dealer. The Orange amps he had were solid state and I am not looking for solid state. He did tell me that the Orange Tube amps are really expensive.

I'd have to agree with the folks who are saying get a great amp first. Strats are awesome guitars but when paired with a great amp (tube amp IMO) it is heavenly.

I would love, love, love to see pictures of those at the Tweed Case! http://www.tweedcase.com

Particularly the 72 PBass and Jimmy Vaughn. How close does that look to the Jeff Beck?

RK when you pick up a bad one you know about it. Their not bad per se, uninspiring is more the word i'd use to describe the worse ones. Equally you certainly know about it when you have a goodie. It certainly doesnt sound like you found a duffer.

I'd love of add the old JB with Lace dualeys. I saw a beautiful purple one at GC for about 1400... the color reminded me of Easter candy... ridiculous!

The JV doesn't really have anything in common with a JB sig. other than it's a strat. All the gear on the JB is different.

I know that paint. The neck on that guitar   It was beyond belief that he'd be seriously playing one. There is a pic of him with one on the April '93 cover of 'Guitar Player. Not even close neck wise to the Tele's or LP's he's been associated with.

Doc
