I have been playing Acoustic on a Yamaha, and handed down 96 Gibson J-200 for 8 months now, and decided it was time to take the leap onto electric. So I hit up Heart of TX Music on Lamar in Austin, and Ray himself helped me get set up.

I picked up a Mexico Assembled Standard, Gloss Black and White, and I am now riding high on the excitement of my new rig.

I'm Lovin this.

Welcome and congrats. Play her long and enjoy... and remember to give some love to your acoustics every now and again.

Some pics of it would be appreciated.

These are the defining moments in every guitarist's life - the first choice of brand and instrument.

I remember salivating over Stratocasters for years before finally affording one. I remember being ecstatic when I finally laid my hands on my first Strat - a Japanese reissue with a Khaler tremolo. Loved the thing and would not even consider that there were other guitars.
Now I am gutted I sold it.

One advice from me, if your love for the electric guitar continues and grows over the years, do NOT sell this Strat. It will be one of the greatest memories in your life, regardless of the guitars you buy later on...

congrats on a wise choice. The standard strat is a fine fine fine guitar and a ideal choice to go from acoustic to electric.
Do me a favour post some pictures of the strat and the J200 please. Thats the acoustic i want.

Sweet, have fun with the Strat!

I did the same as you, I had a Yamaha fg-700s that I was learning on and then moved up to a Telecaster. One of the best decisions I ever made in life. And now I want a STRAT too!

Enjoy.

I can remember growing up and all the copy strats and teles I had and then the first time I bought a guitar that said Fender on the headstock. It was a beautiful tele but I felt I was a real player that day because my guitar was the same as my idols-no imitation . Enjoy and the best of luck.Just a warning make some room because one is never enough it cant be helped.

Congrats. Dig it.

And Stratocasters share something in common with potato chips...it's difficult to have only one.

Thank you all for the congrats and advice.

A couple of you have asked about some pics, so I am throwing a few up. I know this is Fender's Forum, but I did have a request for a photo of my Gibson, so I am obliging.

Here is the new Strat:

And here is my Gibson. It is actually the 96' J-200 King of Rock and Roll, (Elvis), J-200. And since the size designations were different when this was originally created for Elvis, it is actually the size of a SJ. It is a deep gutsy beast.

Both very beautiful. Now if you'd be so kind as to email me and tell me where you live, when your going on holiday and the code to the house alarm.

Just kiddin.
Really very nice guitars and very inkeeping with each other too. We dont mind non-fender stuff here either. Post away mate and thanks for sharing those lovely pic's.

Wow - that Gibson is killer! The Strat is really fine and if I'm not mistaken, 06 is when Fender made some serious enhancements to the MIMs!

You're like my son - he loves black.

ATX, those are some sweet guitars! Never seen the gibson before and its a beauty. I have a white/white strat with a maple neck but yours appears to have a rosewood neck, im wanting a rosewood one next.
