Please,
im trying to select a body for my strat project. im looking to use a usa body with vintage trem and im not so sure it would be worth spending big dollars for a body when a highway one body can be had for very little in comparison.

do you guys who know better believe the wood in a highway one body would be as good as most any signature series or other usa strat body. or is there a noticable tonal difference . im just not a big believer in emptying my wallet for advertising hipe.

also any difference in alder and ash

thanks for your help, jimmy b

On my franken-partso-playedtodeatha-caster ive just switched from a 3 piece sapele body (with a nitrocellulose clearcoat) to a 7 piece alder body.(finished in polyurethane. and yeas i can see the body joins through the paint). I noticed no tonal difference at all. Whether thats because of the active circuitry or not i dont know.

I'd offer the opinion that the highwayone body is in no way a cheap or 2nd option anyway. Its a perfectly servicable bit of wood. My only concern would be the finish. I have a nitrocellulose finished guitar and wish like hell it was urethane or polyester finished. Its simply too fragile to be on a players guitar and not suffer scuffs and other marks. If thats not a issue for you then simply pick the colour you like and Bobs your uncle, Ethel's your auntie and Trevors your cousin.
