I change mine at least once a month. Wow 12.5 months with the same strings, it would have bugged the crap out of me in 6 months. Congrats on the string change.

Keeping strings on that long is like keeping the same diaper on a baby for six months. Now that you've changed them they feel a lot better, right? :)

I'd never broken a string in my life til I tried changing them myself, ended up overwinding the high e string and it snapped o_O

I must have snapped five or six high e strings before I finally figured out how to change them right.

Same here. I swear by locking tuners now though.

I have not tried to change strings on my stratocaster yet. But can it be any more difficult change on a strat then other guitars? I've done it many times before on other guitars :P

You shouldn't have any trouble then. Just make sure the string is secure under the string tree(s).

Nope, my granddad couldn't remember when the last time he changed the strings on his late '50s or early '60s Airline was. Judging by the way they felt, it was probably more than a year. When I tried to change them for him, I broke the rusted tuning machine off before I was even close to tuning up to pitch. I felt horrible about breaking that, I hope he's gotten it fixed by now.

Time interval is not as important as when do you consciously begin hearing your guitar sound less than its best.
