Yesterday I saw a spalted maple Tele for the first time. It was discovered in a local guitar shop. I know these have been around for about 2-3 years but I had never come across one.
It had a spalted maple cap over a mahogany body (I think it was mahogany). Very unique looking guitar. Its Korean made and had two SD humbuckers. The neck is very nice and has abalone inlays but seemed a bit thin to me as my hand cramps fast when I play a thin neck (prob due to poor technique as I've never had any lessons  .) The guitar had very low action for those that go for that sort of thing, but showed no fret buzz or choking out on bends. It has a bound rosewood fingerboard with great fret work. It was only $675 brand new which seems to be a great deal considering the quality of that particular Tele. I would defiitely take a good look at purchasing that particular guitar except I can't handle the thin necks without hand fatigue and cramping while playing more that 20 to 30 min. consecutively. Does anyone own one of these Spalted Teles and if so how do you feel about it? Maybe I'll go for the '52 RI Butterscoth Tele that they had for $1300, which is a great price as well (in my opinion).
The reason I posted this in the Strat section is that I would like to know if Fender has ever done somthing or is planning on doing something similar with a Strat.

Found the tele on the Fender page under Special Editon. And it does confirm that the body is mahogany.

Actually, thin necks hurt me too and I've had lessons in both classical technique and kick butt Texas blues technique. And it hurts both ways, so it's not just you.

I've never seen a spalted maple Strat, although I think I can remember seeing the Tele someplace. I have a Michael Kelly Valor with a mahogany body and a spalted maple cap and it looks fantastic. It would be a great look for a Strat. :)
