No i'm no good with woods. I've a sapelle strat body. Should make a nice LP, generaly not quite as heavy as european or brazilian mahogany. Should be a players guitar.

I was interested in the CBG and hoping to see more, those tuners cant be far off can they? As you know my quest for a metal oil can somehere on this island continues. I had the idea of making a reversed tele neck to go on it. Kind of a Billy Gibbons tribute.

So do you think it is Sepele Niki? It looks way too dark for African Mahogony though it should be red orange.

The side showing in the pic is one of the unfinished sides. The finishes sides show a washed out maroonish color. I'll post a shot of one of the finished sides shortly.

Could just be the pic or staining I thought it looked like black walnut in the the picture. African Mahogony I have seen is red and straight grained so I guessing its the picture and lighting.

CV it looks too dark for sapele to me in that picture. Sapele is generally either a plae yellow, or more to a salmon pink. Then it gets to be a darker red as it ages.

Some African mahogany darkens more to brown, like that sample, as it ages. Also the grain on that suggests to me it is African mahogany, not Sapele, though it is hard to tell from photos.

Sapele and african mahogany aren't the same thing, but a lot of people think they are. Sapele is an African variety of Mahogany, but there is a specific species called African mahogany.

Hi, 12B that picture is what I see as being African mohogony. It could be just staining.

Heehe, like i say, its very hard to tell from the pictures.

these trees are all cousins, so some samples of one may resemble the samples of others. either way , excellent billet there for a guitar.

i love build threads, this should be fun to live vicariously through!!!

I just bumped Ceri's famous build thread for the benefit of some of the newer members who may not have seen it. May it provide inspiration to allthumbs_09 and others! 8)

ohh hop!! :x :x

I have been afraid to post nd tell Ceri!

I had a "I don't have neighbors in the attached unit anymore" gathering on the night before labour day, well we had a late night jam session.

Some drunk, and otherwise(even though I don't partake of hippy lettuce anymore--for over a decade now,) anyway some drunk and 'otherwise' musician buddies were looking at it, and the basement flooring is unfinished concrete, and...

Short stroy long, I have ordered some new paint, and am waiting to redo that particular project, hopefully by the weekend.

Besides if you are going to make a Tele with anything other than Ash or Alder, you need to go real old school, and do Sugar Pine!!!!
