NOOOO! Don't get rid of that beautiful vintage maple neck. That's one of the prettiest things about that guitar--it plays so nicely off the surf green body. 8)

i agree. but, the vintage frets on this one are particularly low profile. when i bar the B and E strings sometimes it's just muffled due to me not being able to push it down hard enough and it just kinda dampens the string (it seems like the fret profile for the higher strings is even lower)

so unless you have an idea with how to refret maple (which apparently isn't possible unless you pay through the nose), let me know.

I recommend this kit, it comes in 3 different colors. The white parchement would probably be more true to the 50's look.

cool, i'm good with the bits and pieces i have now, though. i think i'll leave all the controls cream and then do a 2x white pickup covers (bridge, middle) and 1x cream pickup cover (neck) just to shake things up. also, i don't use a back cover plate either.

i like to make things look unique/mish mashed etc.. not trying to keep anything look original. just want to create the guitar that suits my personality. ]=>

Cool...please post pics when complete. Also you may want to look at Cragslist or e-bay if you want to change out your maple to rosewood. I have to admit, although I am not a Maple guy, that neck looks really good with that paint job. If you are looking for aftermarkt necks, check out Warmoth, they can build anything you want...but cannot put Fender name on it.

will do! i need to check out my local jaycar to see if they have any blending pots. as far as necks go i'd try to just find a USA standard neck or something i think.

If you get rid of that maple neck, let me know what you want for it. It will have a nice home on a project I want to start.

Hey Nihilist, is that a Classic 50s Strat?

Just thinking that those upgrades are going to take you well away from the whole 1950's vibe..

yeah it's a Classic 50's and that's the idea ;P i'd prefer a much beefier sound than what the current pickups give me.

I was thinking one of the reasons I like my Classic 50s Strat is because it has weaker pickups(around 5.3) than my other Strats. I kinda like the clear tone the stock alnico vintage style pickups have. It is a great guitar for clean chording and solos. I intend to keep the stock pickups in it, as I feel it fits a niche in my collection.

+1

I have the Classic Series '50s in Daphne Blue and love its sound for the same reasons. It's a much clearer sound than my other SSS or HSS strat.

I'd like to have one in Fiesta Red and dress it all in gold. That would be a sweet looking guitar.

Yup. Thats my girl and her sibling. Dress the red one in gold and we'd have a nice little sister act going on...

finished. everything went like a charm.

the sound of the texas specials is HUGE. the range of frequencies/tone is IMMENSE, especially through a blues jnr, this thing just hammers! i put it back to back with my friends eric johnson sig and it was a cool offset. the pickups are more peppery and aggressive than the eric johnson (which i like) but i think the EJ beats it by a nose hair in terms of clarity, but that's REALLY being picky.

i'm smitten and the new pickguard looks fuckin' ace!

i also did some work on a possibly $@!&*% up ABR-1 bridge on my SG. here's the pics from that:

the saddles were way off cause someone had set it up for a lefty to play. the bridge, when switched around with the screws facing the headstock, was perfectly in alignment. we hadn't even bothered to check this beforehand. so i wasted a fair amount of $$$ on new saddles and a bridge piece. anyone need an ABR-1? :P
