Okay, in a previous thread, I described a label imprint issue on my new CP50's Strat. The dealer is going to order a replacement pickguard since the pickguard itself is the real problem -- the lable imprint is white and the pickguard should be white. The pickguard, except where covered by the label, has aged to a parchment kinda color. Anyway, no big deal, especially since the dealer is gonna replace the pickguard.

So, I'm considering having him order a different color pickguard. I want to go with a genuine Fender replacement and the choices in 8-hole pickguards is limited. I also thought it might be better to go with a multi-ply pickguard since the single ply ones seem to be kinda flimsy and subject to warping. Yeah, the single ply is what they used in the '50's Strats, so that would be the authentic type.

Anyway, I'm considering a tortoise shell, 4-ply pickguard. Anyone seen a tortoise shell pickguard on a Shoreline Gold Strat with maple neck? I haven't been able to find a picture of one and I'd like to see it before I choose... Any opinions on this combo?

By the way, I'm absolutely thrilled with the CP 50's Strat!

Oldguy,
I don't know if you have looked at warmoth.com but you can get a custom made pickguard in 8-hole tortoise for $34.00. I have never seen a shoreline gold with tortoise but I have a pretty good mental picture of how it would look. And the picture looks nice!

I have a CP50's also but in the sunburst flavor. Like you, I am really thrilled with it. I played quite a few guitars before I picked this one up and it was by far the best. I love the way it sounds and feels. I think the fit and finish on it is just about as good as the American series. My pickguard did the same thing as yours. I can see an image of the sticker on it in the right lighting. I guess I can live with it.

Good luck with your upgrade.

From one old guy to another...

To build an online version of what you want -

go to : http://www.nymphusa.com/kisekae/kisekaeE1.asp

scroll down left side to stratocaster version

click the black strat

new screen pops up

click "continue as a guest user"

click "I agree"

build options are in red at bottom of page

You'll waste hours... blame me later...
