I read the manual that came with my new American Deluxe Strat, but it didn't address specifically the steps on changing strings, other than to point out what position each locking tuning machine head should be in when you thread the string through it. Are you supposed to take the backplate off of the back of the guitar body, or are you just supposed to shove the string up into the slotted opening that reveals the under-side of the saddle? Or ... ???

Thanks in Advance,
Chuck

Chuck -

I've always threaded the loose string up through the slots in the back plate by pushing the string from the bridge side. Occasionally I'll get a string that is bent enough that I can't fish it through so I have a tool similar to a dental pick that I can use to hook the string end and pull it through.

Enjoy the Deluxe - I love mine!

Thanks. Man! I am lovin' this thing! I have stayed up all night the last two night playing it, getting a short nap before work. Can't wait to go play it tonight!

So, on the stringing, are you saying that you can push the bottom end of the string (ball & all) through from the bridge-side (that is, from the top of the guitar)? I didn't think the ball on the end of the string would go through.

Thanks again.

Chuck if you undo a string from the tuner and then push it through the trem you will notice the ball end comes out of a steel block inside the body. That steel block is partialy covered by a plastic plate on the back of the guitar body. The plate has a slot in it so it doesnt have to be removed for you to pull the ball end of the string.

Also if when changing string you keep the High and Low E s on the guitar change the other Strings, tune them then change the High and Low E the Tremolo block remains in position so you can easily push the ball end of the string out of the hole in the back plate

And personal fave way of resringing, is one at a time, "Eric Johnson tuning" sequence, to minmize tension change on the neck.
