Hello,
Does anyone know, where can i find Files for CNC to make a Stratocaster?
Me and a friend we have access to a CNC but the owner sais he needs an .STL file or any other 3D file for routers.
Actually few days ago we buy 2 pcs (blocks) of Mahogany and we want to try to make a Strat.

You're on a Fender board asking for the files to make a stratocaster? Interesting.

Good luck.

What's so bad 'bout it?
I don't have a factory and make replicas to sell around. I want to make something just for fun.

You need to go and ask the CNC machine owner the exact cost of such files. The £300,000 avg for the machine is a drop in the ocean compared to the charges engineers make for programming them.
There is a program you can buy, where you put the measurements in and it works it all out. My rhythm guitarist has it. I'll let you know what its called when i get to speak to him. I seem to remember it costing a couple o thou though.

The guy already has the program to run the router, we just need the files to load in the program. As he told me yesterday the file typr is .STL or.... .SLT anyway something like that.
These files are like guitar blue prints (in 3D) where you load 'em to router's program and then router cuts the blank wood.

I suspect that's the program Nikininja is talking about.

As well as Niki's friend Forum user Twelvebar seems clued up on CNC machines, and there's professional machinists around the Forum too. Stick around - you may get an answer.

BTW: if you manage to make this thing happen would you consider running a thread about it, please? Plenty of photos would be great. There's many here would be most fascinated to see it all in action.

Cheers - C

Yes of course, i'm planning to post pictures from all the procedure.
Also one of these days i will post my EVH project, a guitar that i modify and paint myself.

Hi again: I know it's not what willsats is looking for, but I just came across this page. CNC routing - using a Dremel!!! And what a ton of work goes into programming the thing...:

http://www.grzsoftware.com/users/johnw.php

Just thought someone might be amused by all of that.

I think I'll stick to my chisels...

Cheers - C

PS: willsats, try asking ehawley on this page about your programming:

I know different programs, supports different file types, but as i wrote above he ask for a certain file with an extension STL.
He has all the rest that we need, actually he is a carpenter, he makes house furnitures and he just agree with us to use his router.

An STL file is not that hard to come by. If someone has a detailed blueprint with dimensions for a strat body (or whatever body your after) I can generate a 3D model for you and save it to whatever format you need. This isnt rocket science and it wont cost you a fortune either. Its a matter of modeling what you want in a 3D modeling software that can output the file type your looking for. Like i said if you can get me a detailed blueprint i can get you exactly what you need.

That file type would work however that type of file is typically used for 3D animations and renderings. It may or maynot be modeled to scale which is why its more important to have a detailed drawing in order to generate the correct scale and dimensions. The CNC machine will cut exactly what it is given and the programer will use the exact file that he is given. Get me a blueprint and i will get exactly what you need.

(Learning curve...) Hmm, OK. So Forum user James2517 posted these plans on another thread the other day:

http://media.photobucket.com/image/stra ... BP2201.jpg

That the sort of thing you could work from?

BTW: walker.rocker12, is this hypothetical, or are you actually offering to make a file for willsats?

Oh, and welcome to the Forum! You've hit the ground running!

Cheers - C

Thats the sort of blueprint im talking about. I skimmed it really quick and it looks like most of the dimensions are there. It is missing a few but if he doesnt mind if its off a little then i will gladly generate a model for him. The file would be very close to an original, in fact you probably wouldnt be able to tell. I just want to add that disclaimer. Making a model isnt really a big deal. If he does go through with this i want photos of the entire process though.
