Alright i got this Fender stratocaster a couple years ago at a suns game (a lucky winner) but never really got into it until last year. Now being me i like to know where my guitars are made (just my nature). So one day walking through a book store i found 50 years of the stratocaster. So i read the whole thing (very interesting the history of fender and the stratocaster). So i go home and i look into were mine was made. Thats were the problem is. Now on the back of the head stock is says made in Korea. Okay. But when i check my SN its not anywhere close those kinds of SN's. I called fender the next day to see if it was even a fender (it was). But they said it was custom built so i could have a strange SN. I have some pics below any opinions and thoughts would be highly appreciated.

Its made in korea..

when you win guitars from a contest
they always paint it with their logo or put decals.
so nows they can say, WIN A FENDER CUSTOM GUITAR!!
when its really just a $80 guitar

i guess the only real value is the signature
but if it plays good even better

Thats why i never enter contests... except here on Fender website
because when they say custom, they mean real custom Made in USA

Hi Srv-Zeppelin: well, it says "Made in Korea" on the back, and that's a mighty big clue.

On the other hand, I doubt they sent it all the way over to Korea to get that picture put on the front. I presume that was done locally (though who knows?).

Strange thing: that shiny metal logo on the front of the headstock is usually found on American Deluxe Strats. Don't get me wrong, I don't think that is what you have. Just pointing out a curious detail.

Not to take issue with my esteemed colleague, but I do think your Strat is probably worth a good bit more than $80.

It's neat. Play it with pleasure.

Cheers - C

It's not A fake 80$ guitar of that I am sure. I spoke to fender about it and they said that I should disregard were the neck says it's from cause the body could be made some were else. But they were pretty adiment that it was a legit fender.

well if you want to know for sure, your going to have to take it apart.
and take picture of the body.

i believe its and all koren guitar becuase it doesnt make sense
for it to be a Korean neck and Amercan Body.. unless you bought it off someone who put it together.

if you own PRS Guitars then this Korean Fender is a toy..

i rather see picture's of your other guitars lol

Well, in addition to the headstock, the bridge looks like the one that came on the (recently discontinued) Korean Lite Ash Strat:

I think the tuners match parts on Korean Fenders, too.

In principle I don't see why they couldn't have just taken a Korean guitar and applied that picture to the front (probably a silk screen process). Decent mid-price guitars, after all. Nothing to feel disappointed in.

Only thing: I can't come up with a Korean Strat that is routed that way - three single-coils with control access from the rear. But then I can't come up with a current model from the other factories like that either.

It's a mystery!

'Fraid if Fender can't tell you more then I doubt we can. But again, it looks cool. Play it and enjoy it is my advice. Is the signature near the tail real?

Cheers - C

Ya it is real. If you look close you can see where the marker is rubbing off.

I had a showmaster with the same fender logo that was also made in Korea. That body looks like the showmaster too, minus the set-neck.

Trem?
AM STD maybe?

Could the guitar be some kind of showmaster, they had body mounted pickups and a similar trem detail. I wouldnt call a custom built guitar a toy. Its part of a limited run if not a one off. Certainly more of a collectors item than anything i own, including a 50 year old amp. Its highly unusual serial no' guarantees that.

Hi Kong: well the set neck and carved top are different, but that pretty much nails the other details, doesn't it? No difficulty in sourcing Srv-Zeppelin's Strat to the Korean factory now, is there?

Good work.
